It’s impossible to talk about Bak Kut Teh and not mention Seng Huat. Once you step into Klang, everyone you meet will definitely know about ‘that Bak Kut Teh stall under the bridge’. This is easily one of the oldest Bak Kut Teh establishments in Klang and is now being run by the 2nd generation owners (apparently they’re training up the 3rd generation there too!)

Located in Taman Sentosa Utama, Klang, the highlight here is definitely their dry Bak Kut Teh. Slices of fatty pork are marinated in the usual Bak Kut Teh herbs, but an extra step is added whereby they’re dished out and fried with dried chilies, cuttlefish and dark soy sauce, giving it a distinctly different taste  compared to the  usual soupy version.

Pao Xiang is definitely one of the most entrepreneurial of all the Klang Bak Kut Teh joints and have branched out to set up more than 10 franchises, even in Bangkok and Singapore. Their signature dish is a hunk of pork that has been tired in cotton string so that it maintains its shape throughout the lengthy cooking process. This result in extra tender meat and equally flavorful soup.

Nam Seng Bak Kut Teh

The soup here is definitely lighter and milder than those found in Klang, but what sets this restaurant apart is its extremely fast and friendly service. Expect your food to arrive within 5 to 10 minutes after ordering. Customers also get to pick from a wide variety of meats, whether fatty or lean, and they serve you mushrooms and taufu pok separately too.

Apart from all the usual pork stews, Weng Heong Is absolutely famous for its sea cucumber Bak Kut Teh dish. Huh? Sea cucumber can be made into Bak Kut Teh too? The answer is an absolute ‘yes’.  You’ll be surprised how this usually slimy seafood soaks up all that great herbal soup, and tastes tender and juicy all at the same time.

Expect long lines if you visit this restaurant, as its one of the most famous and most established outlets in Klang. Long simmering broth is poured over pieces of pork meat and fresh lettuce, and served with steaming hot rice topped with fragrant fried shallots. It doesn’t get any better than this!

It’s so thick that they ration each portion for each customer, and you’ll have to order an extra serving of rice if you want more broth. However that’s a small price to pay as you’ll never taste Bak Kut Teh soup quite like this anywhere else.
