Commonwealth is a little area just a few stops down from the West. Although the area is small and the community close-knitted, the food there is not something that you’ll want to miss.

1. Spicy Sambal Stingray

Situated in Alexandra Village, just opposite of Queensway Shopping Centre, between a couple of HDB blocks. The food centre is known for its spicy seafood especially the stingray. With generous servings of sambal sauce, the meat is succulent and thick, making it a great combination that you’ll definitely say Yum to!

2. Cereal Prawns

Served in the same zi-char stall as mentioned above, the cereal prawns are so good, they deserved a shoutout. Apart from the big and juicy meat of the prawns, the generous amount of crisp cereal mixed with just the right amount of curry leaves will get you trying to catch a whiff of its delicious goodness even before the dish reaches your table.

3. Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice

A good plate of chicken rice consists of a number of things – the fragrant rice, the shiok chilli and of course, the succulent chicken. Here at Alexandra Village, this stall sells one of the most-worthy-to-queue-up-for chicken rice.

Their chicken is placed on a dish separated from your rice as it is soaked in delicious soy sauce and parsley. What else is separated, you may ask? The chicken bones. Yes, this stall just got even better. Chicken rice with no bones!

4. Meatballs

Just right across the street from Alexandra Village, stands the 2-storey high IKEA. Apart from shopping for furnitures and items for your home, many patrons make their way to IKEA Alexandra for a meal as well.

Located on the second storey near the stairs that connects both floors, it is quite a common sight to see customers queuing for their food from the counter all the way to the entrance of the restaurant during peak lunch and dinner hours. Their meatballs comes with a serving of mash potatoes with cream sauce and a side of traditional lingonberry jam.

5. Char Siew Rice

6. Western Food

Right at the end of the hawker centre at ABC Brickworks Food Centre, is a stall selling western cuisine. They are known for their huge portions for crispy fish and chips, succulent chicken chops and bratwursts.

Freshly cooked and served, their bratwurst is usually a length from an adult’s wrist to their elbow. It is that long! The stall is usually seen with a long snake of customers queuing and waiting for their turn as well.

7. Hokkien Mee

Just right next to Wow Wow West, is a corner stall selling the most delicious Hokkien Mee. With just the right amount of wetness, the beehoon and mee are cooked over an open fire by the friendly uncle. The stall also provides options for the portions that you prefer, with added prawns and sotongs.

8. Cantonese Chicken Rice

This stall is so popular and ready to serve their customers that they owned two stalls combined! Sin Kee Famous Chicken rice also provides their customers with options of choosing set meals for 3-4 pax or more instead of 1 plate of chicken rice per customer.

Springy noodles, slices of char siew and mouth watering wanton is enough to set my mouth watering. One such stall in Tanglin Halt is known for their wanton mee for over 40 years! Passed down from one generation to the other, the quality and standard of food from this stall has not disappoint. Together with the lard, soy sauces and spicy-enough chili, it has not lost any of its loyal customers and the family business is still going strong today.

10. Homemade Ice Cream

What better idea to end a meal than to get dessert, The Milky Way is located between a couple of old HDB blocks but the layout of the cosy cafe is far from nostalgic.
