Clementi has its fair share of good food places. Several of them are frequently patronised by students in schools from the area, like the National University of Singapore.

Some of the best (and cheapest) food can be found in the market and food centre located next to the Clementi MRT Station and Mall. This also makes the food stalls easily accessible as well (always a huge plus)!

Niqqi’s The Cheese Prata Shop.
If you go here on weekday evenings, you will definitely see many groups of students around satisfying their craving for some good prata. Niqqi’s is well-known for serving a wide variety of prata and has many original creations.

Soon Lee Porridge
Though this stall has little variety (only 3 different types of porridge are sold), many people still flock here for the delicious porridge, which is served in the traditional Hainanese style. If you ask the locals in the area, many will point you to this stall. A must-try!

Tanglin Halt Western Food
More and more hawker centres are serving western food. However, I have found most of these dishes quite unappetising and average (well, I am paying a lower price for western food so I shouldn’t expect too much anyway).

However, Tanglin Halt is far from mediocre. It is well-known for serving sumptuous western food at affordable prices. The chicken cutlet and fish and chips are favourites here. Be sure to be there early because they close once everything is sold out for the day.

La Mian Xiao Long Bao
I have heard from many people the La Mian here is simply fantastic. The dumplings which come with the La Mian dishes are outstanding. Try them with the dry La Mian.

Bgain 442 Eating House, Singapore 120442

Roasted Meat Stall
While the exact name of this stall is not known, you will definitely find it if you ask the people in the food centre for directions. The stall is known to provide large portions of meat at low prices. It’s located on the side of the food centre directly opposite the coffeeshop–Bgain 442 Eating House.

Clementi 448 Market and Food Centre.

Jit It Thai San Popiah
This popiah stall, run by two elderly, is famous… for its slow and relatively poor customer service. However, why do they still have long queues outside their stall daily? The only answer is that the popiah here is one of the best in Singapore. If you are feeling brave, do venture here and buy some popiah. Once you sink your teeth into a delicious roll of popiah, you won’t regret the wait.

Saizeriya
Although this Italian Casual Dining restaurant is found all over Singapore, we felt that this list would be incomplete without mentioning this place. Portions here are decent and there is an interesting variety of food. Be sure to try the risottos and gratins here! A big plus: No service charge here.

NTUC Foodfare
NTUC Foodfare outlets are known to provide cheap local food. The quality of food varies from place to place, but the outlet in Clementi is one of the better ones for sure. Do try the stall King Kong curry and their curry cutlet rice which gives you a huge slab of chicken cutlet, saba fish set from the bento stall and if you’re in the mood, a sliced fish ee mein from the Fish Soup stall. You won’t regret it.
