Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ll have known about the impending divorce case between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, one of the highest-profile marriages in Hollywood (or even in the world).

The pair was together for 12 years (since 2005) and got married in August 2014. The term Brangelina was coined for this beautiful couple that has walked the red carpet numerous times together.

Yesterday, it was announced that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences. Brad Pitt responded by saying that he was saddened by that, and the focus they had now was the wellbeing of their six children, in which three were adopted.

While the key reason (other than “irreconcilable differences”, which is pretty broad) for the divorce is still unclear, here’re some interesting facts about the gold couple that has inspired many.

The split could be due to their kids
According to a TMZ exclusive report, Angelina Jolie made the decision as Brad Pitt had an anger issue, probably due to consumption of weed and alcohol, that would be dangerous to the kids. However, Angelina Jolie has not made this statement: it was allegedly mentioned by “sources”.

The “sources” also indicate that there was no third party
While no one has confirmed this, it has been reported that Angelina Jolie has filed for physical custody of all their children.

This isn’t their first marriage
Angelina Jolie married actor Billy Bob Thornton in 2000, whom she, too, met during filming. They divorced in 2003. Brad Pitt, on the other hand, was in another high-profile marriage with Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005.

Brad Pitt’s relationship with Angelina Jolie did not go well with many initially
Brad Pitt met Angelina Jolie in the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and they fell in love when Brad Pitt was still married. Fans then started to blame Angelina Jolie for causing the crack in Brad Pitt’s marriage. However, both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie denied breaking his marriage: both simply fell in love with each other during filming.

Brad Pitt’s previous marriage was also a “supercouple”
Simply put, a supercouple is two high-profile and extremely good-looking celebrities getting together. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were one of the first supercouples in Hollywood, and ironically, so were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Despite being a supercouple, the couple tried to keep a low profile
Their marriage was conducted in a private ceremony in Château, and Angeline Jolie gave birth in Namibia to avoid media attention.

Angelina Jolie adopted one kid before getting together with Brad Pitt
It was only when Brad Pitt got together with Angelina Jolie that he, too, adopted them. The first kid was adopted in 2002. The pair did, however, adopt two more kids in 2005 and 2007.

Angelina Jolie admitted her relationship with Brad Pitt only when she was pregnant
There were rumours of them being together in 2005, but they had not confirmed their relationship. In early 2006, Angelina Jolie finally admitted to the relationship by claiming that she was having Brad Pitt’s child.

The couple’s kids’ names hold the family name Jolie-Pitt
The decision on why this family name is unknown, but this family name was also given to the three biological children the couple has.

They have a charity foundation, Jolie-Pitt Foundation
The foundation was set up in 2006 to assist with humanitarian crises around the world, sort of like the one you see in Descendants of the Sun.
