10 Facts About The Late Carrie Fisher You Probably Didn’t Know of

Carrie Fisher, who passed away on 27 December 2016 after going into cardiac arrest four days earlier, is best known as Princess Leia, a character in Star Wars in which she rose to fame. However, there are also other facts and sides of her you may want to know.

She was too short for certain scenes
In the Star Wars trilogy, she stood on a box in many of her scenes with Harrison Ford. This was due to the fact that she was about a foot shorter than him and they didn’t fit into the same frame.

Drug abuse
She had abused cocaine throughout the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, as well as other prescription drugs. “Drugs made me feel normal,” she said back in 2001. Her one-woman play and memoir Wishful Drinking also tackled her addiction with drugs.

Guest roles
She also appeared in guest roles in several shows, including The Big Bang Theory, Entourage, Sex and the City and a memorable appearance in 30 Rock

Schooling
After enrolling in London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and then Sarah Lawrence College, Fisher dropped out, at the age of 19, after landing the role of Princess Leia in George Lucas’ 1977 space epic Star Wars.

Outfits
She did not like the outfits she was given in the movies. While she did not like her white dress in A New Hope, the famed metal bikini was the worst of all. “When I laid down, the metal bikini stayed up,” she once said. “So Boba Fett could see all the way to Florida.”

Bagel-hair
She did not like the “bagel bun” hairstyle she wore in the original Star Wars but she didn’t say anything about it because she was afraid that director George Lucas would get angry and fire her.

Without her, we’d never know there’s no underwear in space
Her breasts were taped down with gaffer tape, as wearing the white dress did not permit her to wear any lingerie under it. She later joked, “As we all know, there is no underwear in space.”

She does not think she is a good actress
She thinks she did a bad job playing Princess Leia and used her awkward half-American, half-British accent as an example.

She was nearly cut from the script
Lucas toyed with the idea of changing Luke Skywalker into a woman and cutting Princess Leia from the script.

Favourite scene
She admitted that some of her favourite scenes were her arguing scenes with Harrison Ford.

These facts show us much more about Carrie Fisher in real life rather than just in the movies, whom we will all miss dearly.
