However, while you’re there, eating the food in Batam should also be on your to-do-list as well, because why not? So here are 10 foods you must really makan when you’re in Batam…and crispy rendang is not included (not that they have it, though).

You can find this yummy chicken dish at Lucky Plaza. The chicken is marinated with sweet soy sauce and is perfectly barbequed so the texture is still moist and tender. If you want to spice things up, eat the ayam bakar together with the chilli sauce! Yummy!
If you love Japanese ramen noodles, be sure to try out Supaichi Ramen especially if you love spicy food. The spiciness is divided into 5 levels, level one being the least spicy to level 5 being super duper spicy! Take your pick!
Ikan Bakar Citra Batam
You can have your fill of the best charcoaled barbequed seafood here from fish to stingray to squid! Don’t forget to eat with the hot cause or sambal and be sure to squeeze some lime over your food for an extra kick to your taste buds!
Homemade Pangsit Udang
This homemade wonton dish is a must try! The main ingredients include chicken, shrimp and veggies. The wanton can be eaten fried, steamed and also boiled. Your pick! Some say it’s best eaten steamed.
A fish dish you wouldn’t want to miss. The deep fried fish is coated with tasty bread crumbs and then eaten with the ‘Yumcha’ sauce which is a special soy sauce.
BPK Singalor Lau
This is an Indonesian style roasted pork that is cut into perfect bite sizes but still juicy and succulent to the taste buds. A must try when in Batam, for sure!
Mie Goreng Medan
The simple fried noodle is a breakfast favourite especially amongst the locals in Batam. Stir fried together with garlic, duck egg, Chinese sausage and shrimp, it is a dish of sheer simplicity that will still satisfy any foodie alive!
Ayam Taliwang Jodoh
This barbequed chicken is also something you do not want to miss out when in Batam. The chicken is marinated with a spicy and tasty sauce that’s guaranteed to make you go “Yum!”. Dip it in their chilli sauce for some extra spiciness!
Salted Egg Crab
Taste The Crab – Hill Cafe is the place to be to get your fill of the delicious salted egg crab. The richness of the sauce is to die for. Salty, milky, creamy and spicy- A combination of tastes that will surely take your taste buds on a trip!
If you love durian, the place you should head over to is Pekan Baru where you can get your fill of their Es Durian or Iced Durian dessert. The texture is rich, creamy and cooling, perfect for a hot day!
