The moment you read the words at the end of this paragraph, you confirm-plus-chop will sing a song: Go Go Power Rangers.

Still resisting the temptation to sing it aloud? Then listen to it instead. I bet you’ll soon be singing your childhood national anthem now.

Singing now? Okay. Now let’s look at some power facts about this national anthem of all 90s kids. That’s why you’re here, isn’t it?

(Erm, can you stop replaying the song now and read on? I spent a lot of time researching on this one leh…and also a lot of time replaying the song)

The name of the song is “Go Go Power Rangers”

No, I shit you not. The song was recorded with the name “Aaron Waters – The Mighty RAW”, but thank God people in the 90s didn’t need clickbaity titles so they used the easiest name they could come out with.

It was only used for three seasons of Power Rangers

There’re 6,291,331,310 seasons of Power Rangers (okay, seriously, there’re only 24 seasons as of now…that’s still a lot!), but only the first three seasons used the theme. In fact, the last season to use the theme is called “Alien Rangers”…which you can view here.

Then, hell broke loose when the song was replaced with this shitty – I mean, new theme song that no one has heard of before.

Yeah, I have the same thought as you: what were they thinking?

…and it came back in 2011

In 2011, the song of the eighteenth season of Power Rangers, known as Power Rangers Samurai, was redone, and since then, that familiar national anthem has since been back, albeit a few changes in each season.

Here, take a listen. This is the song that brought back the song.

The song was composed within a few hours

Now that we know our childhood song hasn’t been destroyed, let’s get back to the more important facts. The song, composed by now 55-year-old Ron Wasserman, was apparently written, produced and composed within 2.5 hours after he watched some early footages of the series.

Wait, the song of the decade is composed in a few hours? Man, I’m impressed.

It’s not just “Go Go Power Rangers”

Yes, the original song is more than three minutes long. The one that you’ve been listening to is merely the intro song.

And since you’ll be listening to this six million times, here’re the lyrics for you.

They’ve got
A power and a force that you’ve never seen before.
They’ve got
The ability to morph and to even up the score.
No one can ever take them down!
The power lies on their si-i-i-i-i-ide.

Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

They know
The fate of the world is lyin’ in their hands.
They know
To only use their weapons for defense.
No one will ever take them down.
The power lies on their si-i-i-i-i-ide.

Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
You Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

No one can ever take them down.
The power lies on their si-i-i-i-i-ide.

Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
You Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!
Go, go, Power Rangers!

The song’s premise is the word “GO”

Here’s what could have happened that fateful day when the song was born: one day, Mr Wasserman’s company showed him some footages of the show and wanted him to work with the word “go”.

He was supposed to have it done by the next day. Well, given the tight deadline and just mere one word, he created a legend.

So here’s the formula to a great song: give a word and set a crazy deadline.

There’s a revised edition of the song with new technology

You see, in the 90s, songs were in CDs and cassettes. On 22 October 2012, Power Rangers: Redux was released. It’s now a digital download (can you believe it: Power Rangers going online!).

You can preview the songs in Ron Wasserman’s website.

The genre is actually….heavy metal

Yeah, bet you didn’t notice that, eh? It’s not common for kid shows in the 90s to be associated with heavy metal, since it’s sometimes considered to be a little too aggressive.

But…who cares? Go Go Power Rangers!

The 2017 movie doesn’t use vocals for their song

I don’t know why, and I don’t want to know. But then again, hearing the melody is enough to make you sing aloud. Or am I the only one doing that?

There’re some remixed versions in YouTube that’ll blow your mind

Okay, pictures paint a thousand words, but hearing it paint a million words. Check them out!

Okay, enough. Now, get back to work instead of replaying the song for the sixth million time.
