You want to give her (or him) a proposal to remember and sometimes that means pulling out all the tricks you have in your bag — a flash mob in the airport or on trains, fine-dining at the restaurant you both went to on your first date or writing out the question literally in the sky with a plane. The first thing you need to decide is where you will pop the big question, so here are 10 proposal ideas to fire up your imagination.
If you and your partner are nature lovers and prefer the quiet of outdoor greenery, Bukit Timah railways is a romantic spot that provides you with the privacy and tranquility you need to spend some one-on-one time with her. This is perfect for shy couples that want to celebrate their engagement without any prying eyes and attention. And if the remoteness of Bukit Timah Railway Station isn’t quite your thing, head to the end at Dairy Farm Road for the almost-vintage steel truss bridge. PHOTO: Nat Tan Photography
Asking for her hand in marriage when she’s hungry is not the best thing to do when you want her to say yes. There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Singapore that have the romantic ambience you need when you go down on one knee. We love The White Rabbit’s food and intimate setting or be transported to the streets of Italy with Alkaff Mansion Ristorante’s lovely alfresco dining. For those who prefer something a little more casual, P.S. Cafe at Ann Siang Hill has all the romantic, inviting dim lights you need on the second storey for dinner. Or if you can cook well, a candle lit dinner for two has both romance and the personal touch.
Catch The Wave
The Henderson Waves Bridge at Bukit Merah is distinctive due to its unique wood curvature and is also popular with joggers, nature goers and couples. Wait for the sunset glow or beautiful lights at nightfall to propose to the woman of your dreams. PHOTO: Alex Lee Photography
Wine, Woman And Song
If you love pairing ‘live’ music with your alcohol (and so does she) then head to a local watering hole and work in your proposal on stage before the resident band starts jamming your favourite tune. Bring her up on stage and get down on one knee…there’s no way she can say no! This will take some coordination with the staff so do plan in advance. Some of our fave music hideouts are Wala Wala, Timbre, Blu Jaz Café and B28.
A proposal high up in the skies (or as close as you can get to it) will not go wrong, especially with a gorgeous view to sweeten the experience. A tourist spot may not be your ideal location to propose, but 165 metres above ground level with Singapore’s skyline stretching out infinitely behind her is undoubtedly a view to remember. Or if you are determined to go the extra mile, book out an entire capsule for privacy or dine in the Singapore Flyer at night for the romantic mood.
Give Her A View From Atop
Marina Bay dining deserves a point all on its own — if you are willing to splurge, treat you and your date to fine dining at Sky on 57 or Ce La Vi at Marina Bay Sands, or 1-Altitude or Forlino at Raffles Place. Coupled with an unparalleled view of the river, downtown cityscape and tones of blue and red splashing across the skies during sunset, your proposal will be filled with a myriad of natural and dramatic colours.
Under The Sea
You won’t get this anywhere else in Singapore; propose underwater in the S.E.A. Aquarium in Ocean Restaurant, where you can enjoy mouth-watering Western cuisine with the aquarium’s beautiful marine biodiversity for company. The large Open Ocean habitat spans across the sides of the restaurant and leaves a stunning ocean blue glow on the inside.
