With a solo movie about Wonder Woman to be out in 2017, here’re ten facts about this superhero, so that you won’t go into the cinema thinking that Wonder Woman is Supergirl!

The creator of Wonder Woman is also the inventor of the modern lie detector
William Moulton Marston is a renowned psychologist and writer even before the creation of Wonder Woman. He was then well-known to be the person who created the systolic blood pressure test, which leads to the modern lie detector.

Marston’s wife was the person who indirectly co-created Wonder Woman
When Marston thought of a superhero who would use love instead of physical fights to save the world, his wife allegedly said, “Fine, but make her a woman.” Who would have thought that sentence was so influential?

Wonder Woman often is associated with the icon of feminist
Because, you know, who else other than a female superhero? The intention of Wonder Woman, according to Marston, is a “psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should…rule the world”. Coming in 1941 whereby sexist is stronger and coming from a psychologist, you can bet it has served its function well.

The initial idea was to have Wonder Woman worn a skirt
That idea was cancelled because it was too difficult to draw, and while fighting, the skirt would be flying around, covering her face. Say what!? We love that!

The uniform is based on the US flag
Of course, we’re referring to the comic edition uniform. She was then viewed as an American icon which explains her uniform. In the TV series, she wore that uniform as she was going to the US to complete a mission.

Wonder Woman apparently has all the powers of Superman
There’re several periods of Wonder Woman, and once she lost all her powers when she became “human”. But other than that, she is supposed to be as powerful as Superman.

There has been no Wonder Woman movie before
Unlike Batman and Superman, in which they’ve got tons of movies before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman has not had one.

Rumours of Megan Fox as Wonder Woman were very convincing
The idea of a Wonder Woman movie surfaced as early as 2001, and since then, people were so convinced that Megan Fox would be Wonder Woman that there were posters like this.

But of course, the rumours turned out to be untrue: Gal Gadot became Wonder Woman instead.

The Wonder Woman TV series in 1975 was so successful, it’s still re-running
The first Wonder Woman looks exactly like how the character in the comic book looks like, and remains faithful to the comic book plot. Ratings were very successful and it went on for three seasons.

Wonder Woman is one of the founders of Justice League
And she’s the first female member who would take the leader role occasionally. Now, how’s that for the feminists?
