I love taking trains.

No, not MRT trains. I’m sure most people don’t enjoy taking the MRT nowadays anyway.

I’m referring to trains.

Uhh, yeah. That. Minus the tilting and we’re good.

Anyway, I’m sure most of you have caught wind of a high-speed rail service being built, linking Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

And now, there has been an update to the project.

MyHSR, a part of Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance, is working with Singapore’s LTA on the project.

MyHSR Corp project delivery director Mark Loader said that the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed express rail service from Malaysia to Jurong East will run every 30 minutes.

There will also be a domestic service for the train, stopping at different parts of Malaysia. The domestic service will also run every 30 minutes.

This is great news for someone like me. You know, an avid traveller who loves trains. Despite being our immediate neighbour, I have yet to fully explore every region of Malaysia.

I have a feeling I know Cambodia better than Malaysia TBH, considering the number of times I’ve travelled to Cambodia.

“The non-stop express service will reach Singapore in 90 minutes and passengers boarding at Bandar Malaysia station will be able to clear Singapore Immigration before boarding,” said Loader.

“Those taking the domestic service from other stations such as Seremban or Melaka will have to clear Singapore Immigration at Iskandar Puteri station and then take the train into Singapore,” he added.

(Oh yes oh yes)

A total of eight stations will be built, namely Bandar Malaysia, Bangi-Putrajaya, Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat, Iskandar Puteri and Jurong East.

The domestic service from Bandar Malaysia to Iskandar Puteri will take 2 hours. Those taking the domestic train service will be able to take a shuttle train service at Iskandar Puteri, bringing them to Jurong East.

However, before you get too excited and start packing your bags, the project is only due to begin at the end of next year. The scheduled completion date will be in 2026.

Aww, man. And here I thought I could take the train in 4 years or so.

Well, at least the plans are underway! Looking on the bright side, I’ll be able to bring my kids on a train trip in the future!
