2nd Half of March Could Go Up to 35 °C: 10 Topics S’poreans Talked About on 18 Mar

Yesterday we wrote about Nutella doughnuts and were quite convinced that it would run out of stock—apparently, it really did within hours, so we’re now looking to start a side business to predict 4D results every weekend.

Now, other than Nutella doughnuts, what are the topics that Singaporeans are talking about today?

Here are ten of them, so you’ll have something to talk about during lunch.

(If you want to be high SES, we give you the permission to say that you read about these in The Straits Times Premium section instead of from here.)

Remember to Service Your Air-Conditioner ‘Coz Second Half of March is Going to be HOT AF

I know saying that Singapore is hot isn’t exactly newsworthy, but when the weatherman says that it’s going to be hot AF for two weeks, it is.

According to the Meteorological Service Singapore, the second half of March is going to be sweaty for many, whereby temperatures could go up to 35 degrees Celsius in certain days.

This is due to hot air being moved over from Northern Asia.

But despite that, there would be short rains in the afternoon for about five to seven days, with two of them extending all the way to the evening.

There would also be one or two rains in the morning.

Not sure about you, but does anyone really check whether that is accurate?

Through I’m pretty sure that the part about 35 degrees Celsius is true. It’s so hot here in my office, the eggs in the pantry has just boiled by themselves.

Trees Collapsed in Jurong West so Man Volunteered to Direct Traffic

So, it seems like out of the “five to seven days” of predicted rain, yesterday (17 March 2018) is one of them.

And it’s not just a normal rain: It’s one heavy rain that uprooted trees, with even a car being pinned by a fallen tree.

Image: channelnewsasia.com

Channel NewsAsia reported that yesterday at around 5:30 p.m., a tree fell on a vehicle at Jurong West St 52. A man in his 50s was in the vehicle and was trapped in it: SCDF officers had to rescue him with a power saw. The man, however, refused to be taken to the hospital.

But what stands out from the rain yesterday was this man.

Image: channelnewsasia.com

According to a Facebook user, the man had “braved the rain [and] directed the traffic”.

First of all, we’re very certain that the man isn’t Thor so he couldn’t have been the one who caused the tree to fall and secondly, that helmet certainly didn’t help to protect him from the rain.

So for him to do what others won’t is indeed commendable. That’s one guy who deserve one of those Stomp Goodie bag seh.

Malaysia’s “Wang Leehom” Posted Yet Another Viral Video, This Time with a “Barbie Doll”

Don’t know about Malaysia’s very own Wang Leehom? Well, check out this and this and you’ll not only know more about him, but would also have a good laugh for ten minutes.

Lest you’re lazy to click on the articles, 江昭上 is a Malaysian who has posted several viral videos of him looking for girlfriend or whatnot – and offering some cash (and a car) in return.

While it seems legit, I think it’s all just an ingenious way to create a character online and get some publicity: after all, in 2018, you won’t get famous for doing good things. You get famous for doing stupid things.

In this latest video, uploaded on 13 March 2018, he teamed up with one Kamie Chung, who looks like a Barbie Doll IRL.

Here, take a look.

It’s basically just a video of 江昭上 talking about Kamie’s weird features, and then 江昭上 asking her to be his girlfriend (yeah, right, in front of the camera, pretty sure it’s legit).

So Kamie then rejected him because she wanted RM5,000 a month and a Toyota Camry instead of RM800 and a Toyota Vios.

No surprisingly, the video has well over 7.2K Shares now and well over 787K views.

Today, they posted yet another video:

If you’re looking for a good laugh today, these videos will do the job.

Krispy Kreme’s Nutella Doughnuts Sold Out Within Hours During First Day

Yesterday, we wrote about Krispy Kreme’s Nutella doughnuts, and projected that it would be sold out.

Image: Facebook (Singapore Krispy Kreme)

It apparent was—within hours, in fact.

According media reports, the doughnuts were sold out in the Changi Airport Terminal 2 outlet within 1.5 hours, and by 1:00 p.m., the outlet in Northpoint was sold out as well.

By 3:00 p.m., four more outlets (Jurong Point, Paragon, Vivo City and Suntec City) sold out the viral AF doughnuts as well.

There were replenishments by at night, only the Vivo City outlet had stock: it was sold out everywhere.

Krispy Kreme has promised to prepare more. They told Channel NewsAsia, “Following the overwhelming response and demand, we immediately rushed to produce additional doughnuts…We will be producing in greater quantities from tomorrow onwards to meet the overwhelming demand.”

Nasi Lemak Burger, Choco Pie, Nasi Lemak Curry Puff and now, Nutella Doughnuts: we’re pretty sure that if you want to sell an item with high demand, just fuse two of Singaporeans’ favourites and you’ll get a hit.

Anyone wanna sell Chicken Rice Rojak?

Social Studies Guidebook that Made Everyone Know About High & Low SES Has “Disappeared”

Remember the hoo-ha that made “High SES” and “Low SES” a sensation in Singapore?

Well, for a start, the publisher has defended the book. The executive director of MarketAsia Books, the publisher of the book, said this to The New Paper: “The table has to be read in context of the whole chapter, which discusses crucial themes pertaining to Singapore’s social mobility and inequality issues.”

That aside, the reporter tried looking for the book in a Popular outlet but couldn’t find it. It was allegedly “withdrawn on the directive of the distributor” but that was denied by the distributor.

Of course there’s one more possibility: it was sold out, ‘coz any publicity is good publicity.

However, despite that, the publisher has removed the book from their online store, though the reason isn’t disclosed.

At least something good come out from here: more people now know what is socioeconomic status.

Bet that before that, you just use the phrase “high-class” and “low-class”, right? Or “scholar” or “farmer”, eh?

Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Out & It Went Super Viral

If you’re like me who likes Marvel films as much as I like Jack Neo’s movies (yeah, low SES movies but who cares?!), you’ll go apeshit at this.

The last Avengers movie was in 2015, and the closest we get on an Avengers movie is on 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, when the group (okay, groups for this movie) came together.

Between the last Avengers and now, we were introduced to Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Black Panther, all of which would be making a comeback in the latest movie with them being introduced more thoroughly through their stand-alone movies in the last three years.

The trailer has got over 238K Shares and well over 32 million views: seriously, who else still need to advertise their movies on TV?

The movie will be in cinemas on 26 April 2018.

And for those who would like to catch the previous Marvel Studios movies, you can now catch them in Netflix Singapore.

Motorcyclist Didn’t Do Anything Still Kana Hit by BMW from Behind

A wise man once said: “You can be the safest driver / rider in the world, but with so many idiot drivers on the road, chances of you encountering an accident depend not just on your mindset but your luck, too.”

Take, for example, this.

A motorcyclist has just stopped before a red light and minding his own business when a car just hit him from behind.

This happened between Canberra Link and Canberra Lane at about 4:27 p.m. on Thursday (15 March 2018).

Thank God the biker just suffered minor injuries.

Police investigations are still ongoing.

Lesson learned here: if you’re sway, you really can’t do anything. Except to do some charity lah.

Singapore’s Michelin-Starred Soya Sauce Chicken Sold in London and Became an Instant Hit

We all know about him…

Image: thenational.ae

…and his Soya Sauce Chicken story.

Image: tripadvisor.com

But we’re Singaporeans so we’re familiar with this inspiring story. However, Hawker Chan (as he is fondly called) has just made his signature soya sauce chicken global (again) with a pop-up stall in London, in collaboration with Singapore Airlines and Singapore Tourism Board.

Every day, only 200 portions of his chicken rice were prepared, and long queues formed for a taste of Singapore—I mean, soya sauce chicken rice.

Not sure about you, but now we’re quite certain that chicken rice isn’t something that only locals like us can appreciate.

Cherry Blossom Display Back in Gardens by the Bay, This Time with Dolls & Cosplayers

I’ve been to the sakuras display in Gardens by the Bay last year, and all I can say is that unless you really like flowers or you need to hit your quota for your Instagram Likes, I’ll rather you spend the money on some nice meal.

But that’s just me. And that’s just last year, because this year, it’s a tad different.

Other than the usual sakura display, there would be ten 60cm-tall kimono-clad speciality dolls at the entrance—in which they are known as the “ambassadors”.

Image: straitstimes.com

Amazingly, each doll cost over thousands of dollars.

In addition, there would be performers by celebrity Cosplayers, and people in Pokemon outfits (???).

The event will be from 16 March to 8 April, and because this is in the Flower Dome (ticketed area), it will cost $12 to $28.

If you feel rich instead, you can check out our guide to flower-watching in Japan during the cherry blossom season.

Bride Who’s on Her Way to Her Wedding Arrested for Drunk Driving

You know why in Singapore, our culture is that the groom would have to fetch the bride to the wedding dinner, and that they shouldn’t be the one driving?

Because of this.

Well, no lah, I was just kidding but in all honesty, this won’t have happened in Singapore.

Over in the US, a bride was on the way to her wedding when she was involved in an accident. If that’s not unfortunate enough, she was arrested when she was found to be allegedly drink-driving.

Image: asiaone.com

She was released from the police station but signed a criminal citation to appear in court at a later date. Guess she at least got her priorities right here.

Lesson learned: when you drink, don’t drive. When you marry, don’t drive.
