3 ERPs Increasing Rates & This Time, It’s Going to Affect Non-drivers Too

Warning: The following information would cause your heart rate to increase at an incredibly ridiculous pace. Viewers discretion is advised.

Those who’ve clicked in to read this, I’m sure you drive or know someone who does. This is no good news for many.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has made revisions to the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates, hot from the oven today, 30 October 2017.

This is not a Halloween stunt, but real. It’s happening with effect from 6 November.

Take a look:

So what caught my eye is the change in rates, stating “Increase by $1”. The first thing that popped in my mind was this:

Sorry, a glutton links everything to food.

Actually, at first glance, I was about to gloat over the misfortunes of those who drive. Because ERP mah, only affect drivers.

But on closer look, and much thought through… Damn, it affects all the Grab and Uber kias out there.

Yes, you know what I mean. Because we will be paying the fares if we get to pass through the money-eating gantries at KPE (ECP) and PIE.

So now, back to the $1 corn flavored ice cream from Macs. That means there’s going to one less ice cream in the world.

You can take away everything from me but you can’t take away ice cream, and pizza sometimes.

Sigh. Unless we avoid the time period, 8am to 9am at KPE (ECP) and 8am to 8.30am at PIE?

But we know the benefits of having ERP right? Or do we not?

Can’t believe I’m doing this but yeah… I’m sure the government would love me for what’s coming up.

Coming up… Benefits Of The ERP System.

Wave goodbye to sardine-packed roads.
ERP minimises traffic volume in areas like CBD and Orchard, as well as major expressways. So we can now Grab or Uber out like a winner. But prepared to pay extra charges, of course.

Forces the creativity out of all motorists.
Why? Because with the implementation of ERP, mototists are left with no other choice but to consider other alternatives to siam ERP charges.

To build a democratic society, based on justice and equality.
Since charges are based on usage—those who use the roads pay more while those who travel during non-ERP hours pay less or don’t need to pay at all, we can all achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.

No more monthly/daily licences.
Motorists no longer need to buy paper licences to drive through high traffic areas in the CBD. Honestly, I didn’t know they had to buy paper licenses… so old school.

No human error.
I didn’t write this. I koped from the ERP’s website. I have to quote for this because I’m not sure if they are going to be that “reliable” with their “fully automated system (that) operates 24 hours”. Yup, they claimed that their “central computer system ensures gantries are always working properly“.

And that’s not all. We can all look forward to a higher tech form of ERP system in the near future. It’s called Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based ERP system, which will be operational from 2020.

It costs them $556 million to create this new technology so I’m sure there will be another  revision to the ERP rates soon enough.

Go eat all the ice cream you always wanted to before another price increase. #JustSaying

Because with so many of us taking Uber / Grab now, this price increase isn’t going to hurt just the rich drivers, but people like you and me as well.
