5 Hacks to Clean That Annoying Armpit Stain on Your Shirt

White shirts have an annoying tendency to yellow from pooling sweat. When that happens to your favourite white shirt or top, it usually means it’s time for a new one.

Fortunately, we’ve got some hacks to help you remove these pesky discolorations, or just prevent them from happening in the first place.

1. Wear an undershirt

The easiest way to prevent sweat stains from ever forming would be to wear an undershirt beneath your white top. There are tons of undershirts out there for both guys and girls that can fit invisibly under other clothing.

Of course, if you’re the kind who can’t even stand sweat stains on your undershirt, then this method is kind of moot.

2. Baking Soda

Step 1: Mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda with a quarter cup of water and scrub into the stain.
Step 2: Let the mixture sit for an hour.
Step 3: Wash clothing in cold water.

Baking soda helps lift the stain from the clothing. If yellow stain remains, repeat, or try another method.

3. Vinegar

Step 1: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
Step 2: Spray mixture onto the stain, and let sit for an hour.
Step 3: Wash clothing in cold water.

Vinegar attacks the stain as well. If yellow stain remains, repeat, or try another method.

4. Hydrogen Peroxide

Step 1: Mix equal parts Hydrogen Peroxide and water.
Step 2: Soak stain in mixture for 30 to 45 minutes.
Step 3: Wash clothing in cold water.

Hydrogen Peroxide is a natural whitening agent. If yellow stain remains, repeat, or try another method.

5. All of the above

Yes, you read that right. All of the above.

Step 1: Soak clothing in 1 cup white vinegar and 2 cups warm water, for at least 20 mins.
Step 2: Mix ½ cup baking soda, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon Hydrogen Peroxide to form a paste.
Step 3: Remove shirt from vinegar, wring till it’s just damp.
Step 4: Coat stains with the mixture paste, and let sit for at least 20 mins.
Step 5: Wash in cold water.

This method combines the effects of all the above ingredients, and should remove your yellow stain. If a yellow stain still persists, call an exorcist or throw it out and buy a new top. You either have the world’s most stubborn stain, or a yellow stain demon possessed your shirt.

Note that all the final steps require washing in cold water. This is because warm or hot water sets any stains, making it harder to remove.
