Pioneer MRT, located one stop away from Joo Koon, is probably one of the underrated stations.

Most people would think Pioneer has not much to offer, apart from Nanyang Technological University.

Here are 5 hidden eateries that serve up lip-smacking fare—even east-siders wouldn’t mind the commute.

1. KL Chee Chong Fun

KL Chee Chong Fun is slightly different as it comes with Fried Yong Tau Foo the likes of fried wanton and fishcake.

It is typically served with Tim Cheong Sauce aka sweet sauce. You don’t have to go to Malaysia to savour it as (according to one of our writers) Pioneer is home to the one and only KL Chee Chong Fun in Singapore.

The stall is located at NTI Food Court, and come before lunch as they close by 12 pm!

2. Vegetarian Stir-fry noodles

There is nothing like a plate filled with mock vegetarian items. It might not be the same as meat, but there is a special taste to it which I can’t put my finger on.

A stall located at Best Coffee Pte Ltd serves up a hearty vegetarian fare and it is also well-renowned in the vegetarian community. We recommend their Stir-fry yellow noodles and don’t forget to add on their mock char siew, mock goose, and vegetables!

3. Ding Ji Fishball Noodles Stall

Ah Lian Bee Hoon maybe popular among the kids in NTU but the underrated stall beside it—Ding Ji Fishball Noodles stall serves up a mean bowl of minced meat noodles.

Their mee pok is springy and it is served with tender slices of pork and succulently braised mushrooms. A flavour burst with every mouthful!

4. The Playground Coffee

Who said hipster cafes are only located on the east-side of Singapore? There is one hidden at Nanyang CC—The Playground Coffee.

They serve up Japanese-Western food such as their Teriyaki Chicken Donburi, Miso Salmon Soba and their Sous-vide Eggs Benedict (which we tried).

Those who like a good egg porn, this dish is for you (even the owner of the cafe recommends it).

It comes with smoked salmon and it is drenched in a creamy Hollandaise Sauce alongside sautéed mushrooms!

One should not pass up any coffee promotion so don’t say bojio: they also have a 1-for-1 coffee deal on weekends.

5. Archipelago Creamery

With every food jaunt, one should not forget dessert. You can end your feast on a sweet note at Archipelago Creamery.

Located at the back of Nanyang CC, they serve up ice-cream, alongside waffles and Shibuya Lava Toast—yes those monstrous thick toasts!

We tried The Pearl, and it is served with bourbon ice-cream (yes, its alcoholic) and whipped cream! It was definitely a sinful treat.
