7 Best Foods in Sun Plaza Because You Don’t Want to Waste Your Calories

Lest you’ve confused, or you stay in Tampines and seldom go up north, here’s some additional information: Sun Plaza is the shopping mall that is just next to Sembawang MRT Station. Sembawang Shopping Centre is a shopping mall that isn’t within walking distance from Sembawang MRT Station.

Okay, now we’ve indirectly questioned why people in the past decided to confuse us by playing with shopping centres’ names, here’s what this article is all about: the 7 best food outlets in Sun Plaza. Because, you know, you’re sick of Causeway Point and Northpoint?

White Resturant: The Orginal Sembawang White Beehoon

Many people thought that the original Sembawang White Beehoon is at Sembawang Road, below a shophouse: yeah, they’re right, but do you know there’s also an air-conditioned outlet in Sun Plaza?

The white beehoon there tastes almost similar to the one at Sembawang Road, and the best part is that it’s air-conditioned, so even if you have to queue, you’re waiting inside a shopping mall. Of course, it’s pricier, but for that comfort, it’s like worth the price.

Oh, did I mention that the service there is excellent?

Tuk Tuk Cha

If you’re in the north and are itching for some authentic Thai milk tea, Tuk Tuk Cha is the best choice for you. Located just next to McDonald’s, you can have your main course in the fast-food restaurant and then your dessert there.

And if you’re there, don’t forget the Tom Yam Toast with Egg. I mean, Tom Yam toast? Shut up and take my money!

SsikSin Korean BBQ Buffet

This Korean BBQ buffet is relatively new, but it’s already has its fair share of regular customers. At $14.90++ for weekday lunch and $24.90++ for other timings, the affordable price is already a great attractive.

And oh, the selection is pretty massive (and refilled in lightning speed) so you might not even be able to try everything in one visit!

Opening Hours: 11:30am to 10:30pm daily

Old Street Bak Kut Teh

You can’t really go wrong with Old Street Bak Kut Teh (except the price), with its numerous chains and its high-tech method to place your order.

The outlet in Sun Plaza is often full, not because it’s at a good location (level 1) but because it’s one of the key places that Sembawang-ers makan there. The soup isn’t too strong and the braised pork rice is a must-order for newcomers–a mild version of the Taiwan version with enough meat.

Just try it once, and you’ll go back often; either to this outlet or other outlets scattered around Singapore.

KFC A.M.

I’m not trying to be funny when I insert KFC here; KFC A.M. is KFC’s breakfast, and it’s not common in KFC outlets on a weekday, especially those that have KFC Coffee.

In other words, catching a KFC A.M. outlet during weekdays is like catching Snorlax, so you’ll better treasure it. But how’s the food? I’ve got to admit that every fast-food breakfast tastes the same to me, but KFC A.M. has something others don’t have: porridge. It’s not every day that you can tell others that you’ve got porridge in a fast-food restaurant, right?

Opening Hours: 8am to 10pm daily

Nine Fresh

This competitor to Blackball focuses on a place that Singaporeans have often gone to when they’re in Taiwan: 九份.

Always innovative, Nine Fresh is a fresh take (pun intended, sorry!) on Taiwanese desserts after you’re bored with Blackballs’ desserts and their crowd. The chain comes with several specials, like Durian Yin-Yang and Royal Ai-Yu Jelly.

Prices are reasonable (at least, in terms of Taiwanese desserts) and the best part? You can customize your own dessert for that Instagram moment.

85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles

Image: eatbma.blogspot.sg

You might be familiar with Fei Shiong, but how about 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles?

85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles was, well, a stall in Redhill a long, long time ago, by the grandfather of the managing director of Fei Shiong Group. The unique selling point of 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles lies in its gigantic fishballs (like, really large), and its popular meatballs that tastes like a fusion of fishball and meatball, instead of those grey meatballs you often find in hawker centres.

If you can only have one dish, just try their signature noodles that have both the fishballs and the meatball: a perfect combination for any noodles lover!
