1. Exercising With Pets
It only makes sense. Going for a run with your canine buddy or doing yoga with your feline overlord quietly judging you is a simple way of combining two great loves. Get ready to see more yoga studios that not only welcome but cater to you and your furry friends.
2. Boxing for everyone
Don’t we all know at least one friend who picked up boxing last year? 2017 was a huge year for the sport, and it seems the love affair is far from finished. Experts say to get ready for boxing to be increasingly prevalent in not just big box gym environments, but at home, in a private gym, or in group fitness classes. Also, get ready to see more womenlearning punch, bob, and weave this year.
3. Intermittent Fasting
Fitness experts are increasingly focusing on metabolism, and it’s only natural that layman consumers and health-conscious gym aficionados alike are starting to turn their metabolism in their favour. Intermittent fasting, which encourages weight loss and maintenance, is already being promoted by a number of fitness celebrities and experts, and it’s simply a matter of time before the rising trend goes mainstream.

4. High-Intensity Interval Training
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions usually last 30 minutes or less, and consist of bursts of high-intensity exercises (duh) followed by slower-paced recovery laps. Practitioners are in love with HIIT due to the time efficiency of workouts, and quick loss of fat (Here at Shopback, we love it!). Some fitness pros, however, caution against HIIT for its high rates of injury.
5. Wearable technology
Activity trackers, heart rate monitors, tracking devices… The list goes on and on, and so does our building obsession with including intuitive technology in our workouts. Popular devices like the Apple Watch and the Fitbit have helped many enhance and stick to their training goals, and we can’t wait to see what else is in store for this market.
6. Yoga as a regular practice
The wonderful practice of Yoga has stayed put on fitness trend lists everywhere. And are we surprised? Due to its constantly developing nature, accessibility, and the ever-changing myriad of styles and trends within the exercise, people are interminably hooked. And let’s not forget to mention: Yoga helps relieve stress, boosts mental health, and ahem, even makes sperm healthier.
7. DNA Testing
People are beginning to take their health and wellness more seriously with, get this: genetic data. It makes sense, as understanding the way you’re built helps in tailoring a suitable regime to best fit one’s body. Allergy tests and heritage tracking, here we come!
8. Welcoming back older adults
Who says staying fit is only for the young? While many gyms still target individuals in the 25 to 35 age range, more savvy clubs are now changing music and lighting during non-peak hours when the typical gym-goer is at work to suit more mature gym-goers.
