When we talk about food places in the West, all we can think about are places like Taman Jurong or Bukit Timah that are often too overrated or over-frequented that it does not pique people’s interest anymore – at least not for mine.

However, what we are often missing out on are hidden estates such as Lakeside that are home to countless of hidden food gems that make the place worth a visit – or as what we call it, A Journey To The West.

Other than all the condos and HDB flats that we see when we pass by the estate on the MRT, here are 8 makan places in Lakeside which prove that going there is better than travelling to Bedok for good orh lua.

You can even take the chance to visit JEM or Westgate after you are done with your meal!

1. Time Table Cafe

Surprise, surprise! Lakeside, too has its very own cafe that dishes out palatable plates of pasta at only S$5.90 per plate which gives other ubiquitous cafes a good run for their money. The selection of food at the cafe may be limited, but Time Table Cafe is the epitome of quality over quantity. Coffee connoisseurs can also grab a decent cuppa while you are there! Possibly one of the most underrated Prawn Mee stalls around.  At S$3, the Prawn Mee here is prepared in the dry variation, using a creative mixture of thin bee hoon and yellow egg noodles with generous portions of seafood. Another point worth noting is definitely the combination of  vicious prawn stock gravy and sambal chilli that makes for a satisfying meal.
