After my O-level, I worked as a cashier in an NTUC FairPrice outlet and was instructed to ask this question to every customer: “Got NTUC card?”

Very often, customers would buy a roll of sweets just because their purchase came to $19.90—mere cents away from the “$20 LinkPoints thingy”. It then became such a routine that whenever a purchase came to $19++, I would ask the customer if they would like some sweets (seriously).

Therefore, my impression of an NTUC Card is just this: Got discount in NTUC FairPrice, and got LinkPoints when it’s over $20.

And let’s face it: many non-members have this thought as well, right?

But when I checked the website of the so-called “NTUC Card”, I was blown away. Like, really. It’s not just a card for NTUC FairPrice. In fact, there’re so many benefits that it becomes a chore just to find the top ten benefits—and there’re so many versions of the card that I’ve to spend hours just to decide which card I want to apply.

An “NTUC Card” is technically not called an “NTUC Card”, but a Plus! Card. In total, there are five versions, with two of them having VISA function (credit or debit card), and one catered for youths between 12 to 25. So whoever you are, there’s a card for you!

To prevent this article from reaching two million words, check out the different versions here.

Do note the differences between an NTUC Plus! card and a Plus! card: an NTUC Plus! card includes membership into the trade union (which you’ll come to understand later).

Now that you know how cool the card is, here’re nine most awesome benefits of an “NTUC Card”!

Get chalet benefits
The main chalets in Singapore are Costa Sands Resort, Downtown East and D’Resort @ Downtown East. Anyone who has been to one would know that having a Plus! card is useful, but what are the benefits? Well, firstly, you earn LinkPoints when you book one of the chalets. Other than that, you’ll also enjoy various benefits, like discounted BBQ pit and many discounts in nearby shops. Now you know why you always hear this in chalets: “Oei, who got NTUC card?”

Get regular attractive promotions
Here’s one for a good start: from now until 31 March (so you only have a few hours to book, my friend), there is a 1-for-1 deal cruise promotion. You’ll definitely miss this so here’s the link to check out all the awesome deals!

Get birthday promotions
The world will know your age when you decide to splurge on these promotions, but hey, who cares when you could get a face spa for $22 when it originally costs $267.50, or a free entry to Wild Wild Wet? Check out all the promotions here, and remember to YOLO!

Get LinkPoints when you pump petrol in Caltex
Just a disclaimer: Caltex is our client (so is NTUC Plus! Card lah, but this isn’t a sponsored post), but the only reason we’re including this is that it’s just too wuhua. Do you know that you get LinkPoints when you pump petrol in Caltex…and you can redeem petrol with your LinkPoints? Perfect, eh?

Here’s a video we did for Caltex for their promotion (the promotion is over, though):

Get all promotions by OCBC if you sign up for the VISA Plus! Card
This needs no introduction: all you have to do is take a walk in a shopping mall and count how many restaurants have discounts for OCBC card. With the VISA Plus! Card, you get the best of both worlds: Plus! card promotions and OCBC card promotions. What more could you ask for?

Get protected as an employee
Do you know what NTUC stands for? It means National Trades Union Congress. A trade union, according to businessdictionary.com, is “an organization whose membership consists of workers and union leaders, united to protect and promote their common interests.” In other words, if you’re an NTUC Plus! member, you’ll be protected and represented by the union should you face any unfairness in work. Oh, and yes: NTUC FairPrice is also not just a supermarket.
(another disclaimer: NTUC, the trade union, is our client).

Benefits even for the youngsters
Seeing that Plus! Card (or more specifically, the NTUC Plus! Card) provides assistance to working adults when they need it, you think youngsters are left out? No, of course not: There’s a special card catered primarily for students called NEBO card, and they have the same benefits as well, plus some special ones just for the young. It’s only for youths between 12 to 25, so if you’re 26…then apply other cards lah.

Online (and offline) purchases to get LinkPoints
Say what!? Yeah, many people have the misconception that you can only get LinkPoints from NTUC FairPrice. You’re so wrong, my friend. Here’s a list of places you can shop and get LinkPoints at the same time. Bet you didn’t know it includes both online and offline shops, eh?
