Nature lovers, hands up if you love trekking in places like the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and you’d want more of this in Singapore.

Because like it or not, that’s what you’re going to get.

By 2022, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve will have a brother: the Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat

And it’ll be located along two future major recreational routes.

The Round-Island Route

The first would be the Round Island Route is a 150km path that will go around Singapore, linking the existing natural, cultural, historical and recreational sites in a continuous green trail.

The Rail Corridor

Previously a railway line, the Rail Corridor will bring you on a journey through a variety of landscapes, communities and unique experiences.

You’ll be able to visit the new nature park when exploring both routes.

Both Nature Parks Complement Each Other

Located just 3 kilometres to the east of the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, NParks say that the two nature parks will be complementary with one another.

“The birds will roost at Sungei Buloh and when the tides go down, the birds will come over to Mandai mudflat and they will feed there. When the tides start to come up, the birds will then fly back to Sungei Buloh.”

But don’t go there expecting something like East Coast Park. The authorities say they’ll be putting in as little visitors’ amenities as possible so as to reduce the impact on the nature reserve.

They will only start development after the end of the year as the migratory season is from around Sep to the end of the year.

A Softer Approach To Conservation Efforts

This move, Second Minister for National Development Desmond Lee said, is in line with Singapore’s conservation method.

Instead of putting up fences and telling people what not to do, they’re looking to bring people to these biodiversity places.
