Why Do New Phones Have Non-Removable Batteries? Either You’d Love It or Hate It

Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to find new phones that have removable batteries.

To some, it can be extremely inconvenient as they now no longer have the option to remove the battery of the phone when it hangs.

Also, for those used to using two batteries, this change might mean that they have to purchase a portable charger.

One reason for the change is safety concerns.

There have been many cases of phones exploding, and all of them is due to the batteries, some way or another. Many people chose to purchase cheaper batteries when they need a replacement, and these cheaper batteries are often lower in quality and more prone to explosions. After all, they’re not endorsed by the official manufacturers, and when shit happens, the manufacturers have to take the blame.

By removing the option to take out the battery, users are forced to go back to the original manufacturers to get their phones fixed, which solves this problem – both in the safety aspect and the PR aspect.

Another reason would be the design. By removing the option to take out the battery, newer phones can be made slimmer, faster, more powerful.

And sacrificing a small convenience for better functions might make a good trade for the manufacturers, hence the change.

However, online netizens have another disturbing speculation, that it is just a big money-making conspiracy. The fastest part of a phone to go is the battery, especially if one does not have good charging habits.

By removing the option to take out the batteries, they are also removing any chance of prolonging the phone’s lifespan by charging the batteries yourself.

This way, users will be forced to change their phones more regularly, and this means greater profits for the phone companies.

But of course, we wouldn’t want to believe that, and we wouldn’t want to lose faith in the companies that we have been trusting. We just have to deal with it. Needless to say, a few years down the road, no one would have remembered how a smartphone battery looks like.
