Always Park Illegally? From 6 Oct, You Won’t Because of These New CCTVs

If you’ve always parked illegally because the road you want to park belongs to you, then here’s a bad news.

Late last month, LTA just announced that they will be installing CCTVs in 60 new locations.

For those who are still living in the dinosaur era whereby you think the only way for you to get summoned is through parking wardens, here’s some context: since April 2014, LTA has been deploying CCTVs in locations whereby there were many illegally parked cars that obstruct traffic.

According to LTA, ever since this programme was implemented, traffic conditions in those areas with CCTVs have improved. The average daily summonses in these locations have dropped by 90%, from 30 summonses per day to 3 summonses per day (what were these three cars thinking?!).

LTA even provided images of a location before and after installation of the CCTVs, and the differences are extremely obvious—it’s better than stationing an LTA warden there.

For a start, from 6 October 2016 onwards, the new CCTVs will be live in these areas:

  • Benoi Road (both directions, near FairPrice Hub)
  • Joo Koon Circle (Joo Koon MRT, near FairPrice Hub)
  • Lim Teck Kim Road (opposite Genting Centre)
  • Sengkang East Way (near Compass One)
  • Sengkang Square (near Kopitiam Sqaure & Sengkang MRT)
  • Woodlands Ave 3 (Marsiling MRT, both directions)
  • Woodlands Centre Road (before Woodlands Train Checkpoint)
  • Yishun Central Service Road (both sides)

Most of them are near MRT stations (which is not unexpected—people like to stop their car there to wait for their passengers), with one of them even near the train checkpoint to JB.

So if you still think it’s safe to “anyhow park” because the summon auntie isn’t around, think again. Everything is digital now. You should be glad that the authorities are not using GPS to track illegal parking…yet.
