Do you think it’s easy to be a Member of Parliament (MP)? It might not be as easy as we thought.

One particular MP was allegedly attacked by a 32-year-old man at his usual Meet-The-People session this week.

Plus, an inspiring Japanese marathon runner that has a thing or two to teach you and me about achieving your dreams.

Here are six topics capturing Singaporeans’ attention today.

Caltex Tampines Saga Pump Attendant Finally Speaks Up

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know about the Caltex Tampines saga. After all, it’s probably on your social media feed almost all the time.

Yesterday, the latest development had the driver lodging a police report and talking about his side of the story.

And today, the elderly pump attendant has spoken up.

Stop harrassing the driver, the pump attendant told Shin Min Daily News.

Netizens have CSI-ed the driver and found his home address, where he works and other personal details.

And they posted them online in public domain.

We have also published an app exclusive commentary article with the headline “Netizens Who CSI-ed BMW Drivers Aren’t Doing it For Justice” in our app, so you might want to check it out here.

The pump attendant clarified that the whole matter was a misunderstanding and the company (Caltex) is handling it.

Well, if even the guy who’d thought he had to pay for the difference out of his own pocket says that, maybe it’s time to lay the bones to rest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He was attacked at his Meet-The-People session on Monday, 16 Apr.

According to reports, a man approached Dr Tan when he was interviewing another resident and assaulted him at around 10 pm at Block 334 Clementi Avenue 2.

Dr Tan was left with bruises on his face and abrasions around his neck.

A 32-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly attacking the MP. He is brought in on a charge of criminal trespass and is being investigated for voluntarily hurt on an MP.

Mr Seng Han Thong, who was the MP of Yio Chu Kang constituency at that time, was attacked not once, but twice.

In 2006, he was attacked by a 74-year-old taxi driver, who felt that he wasn’t helping him regain his lost taxi license. Charges against the driver were dropped after he made a public apology.

In 2009, he was set on fire (literally) by a 70-year-old man who poured paint thinner on him and lighted it up with a lighter.

Mr Seng suffered 10-15 percent burns and had to undergo skin graft operation.

Yet Another E-Scooter Accident, This Time It’s A ‘Hit-And-Run”

E-scooters have been hitting the news lately, all for the wrong reasons.

On 14 April, two cases of kids getting knocked down by e-scooters were reported. One near Punggol Park and another when she was walking back home from tuition.

On 16 Apr, an 86-year-old man riding an e-scooter was involved in an accident with an SBS Transit bus at Yishun.

And on Apr 17, another e-scooter accident happened.

This time, it’s a hit-and-run.

An old lady was knocked down from behind by an e-scooter and fell to the ground.

She suffered a cut at the bridge of her nose and bruises on her knee, elbow and ribs.

The woman attempted to hold on to the rider, but he managed to pull loose and rode away quickly.

She was on her way to pick up her granddaughter from the childcare centre. Her husband, who was with her, gave chase but couldn’t catch the fleeing rider.

A police report have been lodged and her daughter, Sharon Sim, took to Facebook to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

You can read her Facebook post in full here.

So did you managed to see this incident that happened at Blk 538 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 at around 5.25 pm on 17 Apr?

If you did, you might want to help out.

And this is why Singaporeans don’t deserve good things. E-scooters might have crazy good benefits (cost saving, exercising), but it’s the inconsiderate ones that’ll ruin it for the rest of us.

Japanese School Clerk Wins Boston Marathon Despite Having No Trainers, No Sponsers

After so much doom and gloom in the earlier parts of this article, let’s hear about something good instead.

Meet Japanese school clerk, Yuki Kawauchi.

He has no trainers and no sponsorships. And he works a full-time job at a school in Japan.

Oh, and he just won the Boston Marathon, the first Japanese to win the race since 1987.

This inspiring Japanese man called Kuki High School, the place he worked at, to request for an additional day off.

He originally planned to fly back to Japan the morning after the race, but because of his unexpected win, he had to stay longer to attend the functions.

Kawauchi does his training after work hours and participated in races on his off-days.

He had won five other marathons, including races in Taiwan, the US and Japan. He also hold a World Guiness Record for the most number of marathons ran under two hours and two minutes.

For those of you out there who have dreams but never believed that you can achieve them because of your situation, take him as a role model.

He wants to show the world that even if you have a normal life, have a full-time job and limited resources, you can still compete at a world level.

In other words, every single one of you out there can be Yuki Kawauchi. It’s just whether you’re willing to bust your ass for it.

Food for thought, eh?

He will be replaced by ex-Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Neo Kian Hong, who also took over the Chief of Defence Force position from him back in 2010.

Desmond Kuek’s regime was faced with issues of “deep-seated” cultural issues, numerous breakdowns.

However, not all is bad as he managed to turn SMRT loss-incurring bus business around.

Whether the incoming CEO, Mr Neo Kian Hong, will be good enough for the job remains to be seen.

Netizens who had served under him in the SAF, or even simply heard of him before, seems fired up for the change.
