This Carousell Buyer Wanted More Than Just the Clothes; He ‘Wanted’ the Girl

Carousell might be a nifty app to use to get rid of your stuff and earn some money at the same time, but unfortunately the app can be misused for darker purposes.

Such was the case for Lynette (we changed her name), who encountered a “not-so-pleasant buyer” who apparently “wanted more than just the dress she put up for sale”. In fact, she was so disturbed that she wrote in to Goody Feed, in a bid to publicise the buyer in question, as well as to warn others of him.

According to Lynette, it started out innocently enough with Carousell user @mrasolo asking reasonable questions that anyone who was genuinely interested in the dress would ask.

At this point, Lynette clarified that she’s nice in general, and is more than willing to “provide a good service if you want to do business with her (me)”. Also, she assumed that the other party was a girl since the dress in question is catered to females.

As a result, she was willing to cooperate since she did “wish to sell the dress”.

She sent the screenshots as it was a “reasonable request”, but started getting warning signals from the comments in the second screenshot.

Nevertheless, she gave @mrasolo the benefit of the doubt.

After reading his replies, Lynette was somewhat convinced that “he/she was probably a normal person”.

“But I still felt that something was just off about the model question,” she added.

And then @mrasolo decided to take his chance and revealed his true motives with a very “insidious” request.

Incidentally, @mrasolo found another shirt that she’s selling and asked for pictures too alongside the conversation regarding the dress.

“Looking back, I suspect that he specifically chose the form fitting dress and this low cut shirt to ask for pictures which I naively gave as I thought he was she and was genuinely interested in purchasing good clothes,” she said.

When they reverted to the original dress topic, Lynette tried feigning confusion.

But he didn’t catch on.

“I contemplated to block him after receiving that inappropriate request but decided that it would just be letting him off the hook and he would only find another victim who might happen be more naive.

“So I decided to call him out on his deeds as shown in the screenshot above.”

Things didn’t change even after he was called out. On the contrary, it made him even more brazen, by the looks of it.

He was unrepentant

Even though the other party apologised in the conversation, he still persisted in asking her personal questions.

“If he were truly sorry, I would have let things go but I am outraged at how he refused to recognise the perverseness of his deeds,” Lynette said. “He blatantly pursued it even though I had scolded and called him out on it.”

Subsequently, Lynette also blocked him after the last message, reported him and got a bunch of friends to report him on Carousell in the hopes that “the multiple reports are enough to get the app to investigate and stop the pervert”.

As an ending note, she advised everyone, especially young girls to be wary of strange requests.

“It is good to be nice to your customers but be sure that you can recognise the not so nice ones too and protect yourself!”

And I gotta say; I agree.

Just some friendly advice: head to a club if you so wish to pao niu, guys.
