Everybody is now raving about the increase in GST.

If you weren’t in the know, the Budget 2018 speech was delivered yesterday (19 Feb) by our Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat.

If you’re thinking that the country’s budget doesn’t affect you cos’ you’re still young, it’s time to think again.

According to Channel NewsAsia, GST will be raised to 9% between 2021 and 2025.

Yes, it affects you. Quite a lot.

And of course, Singaporeans start to complain lah.

But I’m not here to tell you what they’re worried about, I’m here to share with you some interesting observations that our sharp-eyed netizens caught.

Just yesterday, CNA posted on their Facebook Page a chart that compares our GST rate against other countries’.

And today, they made some changes to the image, after they were accused of false information.

The image changed from this…

…to this:

Just in case you failed at this ‘spot the difference’ exercise, they removed this:

50%??? What???

Yes, I know, it sounds ridiculous.

But the new image was accompanied by an editor’s note:

The information on sales tax in Bhutan was taken from two sources – including a document on the Sales Tax, Customs and Excise Act from the Bhutan government website, but as there has been feedback on uncertainty over the figure, we have removed it from our reports.

Well…I’m not sure how true this is, but I’ll take it.

I mean…it’s CNA.

What netizens say

Apart from the change in numbers, netizens were triggered over the comparison:

Man…agree with both hands and feet up!

That analogy just made everything more relatable.
