You’ve definitely heard of the phrase “raining cats and dogs”.

(No cats and dogs were harmed in the making of this meme)

I want a Tabby cat if this ever happens.

Anyway, with the heavy downpours and irregular drizzle all around Singapore lately, we are no strangers to rain. You know, them droplets of liquid trying to ruin our clothes, electronics and all.

But what if I say, “raining stones and concrete”?

(No, it’s not. Stop lying)

I’m not talking about countries with natural disasters like typhoons and tornadoes, where solid blocks are being flung all over the place by strong winds.

This is local. Right here. In Clementi.

On Thursday (16 Nov) at around 5:00 p.m., a piece of concrete fell 40 storeys from the roof of block 311C, a Clementi HDB flat (Trivelis).

According to the developer, EL Development, a lightning strike resulted in a piece of concrete being dislodged from the precast concrete facade.

However, The Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council has refuted the claim. On 17 Nov, a spokesperson from the town council said, “We wish to inform residents that the town council does not yet share this view as investigations are ongoing. Residents’ safety is of utmost importance to us, and we have a duty to ensure that any conclusions are drawn correctly.”

Hmm.

Workers have also been sent to clear any remaining debris from the roof as a precautionary measure. The playground beside the block has also been cordoned off due to the incident.

This is not the first time Trivelis has been featured in the news. Back in 2015, the residents complained about defective door knobs and laminated flooring of poor quality. Back then, the developers offered to fix the issues for the residents.

Let’s hope that they will be able do something about the crumbling roof this time around.

As it was raining heavily on the day of the incident, no one was at the playground when the concrete fell. Which is good, since I can’t really handle news about children getting hurt.

Never thought I’ll say this, but thank goodness for the rain, eh?

Oh, and just so you know, it’s going to rain more this November.
