The man. The myth. The legend.
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m proud to announce that Steven Lim has…
Wait, hold on.
I’m sorry, there has been a mix-up.
Apparently, contrary to popular belief, Steven Lim is not going to Juventus. Rather, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Yep, yep my mistake. And moving-
Unbelievable as it sounds, it’s true. Or at least if tabloids are to be trusted…
CR7 IS INDEED DITCHING REAL MADRID FOR JUVENTUS.
A done deal
According to reports, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Juventus, becoming one of the four most expensive players of all time.
The deal, that’s worth 112m euros, will see the Portuguese sign a four-year deal with the Italian champions, with an annual salary of around €30m.
Apparently, the 33-year-old is ready for a new challenge after 9 years at Real, and asked the club to let him go. The player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, then met the Juventus chairman, Andrea Agnelli, in Greece on Tuesday to discuss the final details of the deal.
“The time has come to open a new stage in my life, that’s why I asked the club to accept transferring me,” the 5-time Ballon D’Or winner said.
Attached below is a transcript of Ronaldo’s letter to his fans.
Warning: it’s super long.
Also, prepare some tissues.
These years in Real Madrid, and in this city of Madrid, have been possibly the happiest of my life.
I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club, for its fans and for this city. I can only thank all of them for the love and affection I have received.
However, I believe that the time has come to open a new stage in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept transferring me. I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our fans, to please understand me.
They have been absolutely wonderful for nine years. They have been nine unique years. It has been an emotional time for me, full of consideration but also hard because Real Madrid is of the highest demands, but I know very well that I will never forget that I have enjoyed football here in a unique way.
I have had fabulous team-mates on the field and in the dressing room, I have felt the warmth of an incredible crowd and together we have won three Championships in a row and four Championships in five years. And with them also, on an individual level, I have the satisfaction of having won four Gold Balls and three Gold Boots. All during my time in this immense and extraordinary club.
Real Madrid has conquered my heart, and that of my family, and that is why more than ever I want to say thank you: thanks to the club, the President, the directors, my colleagues, all the technical staff, doctors, physios and incredible workers that make everything work, that tirelessly pursue every minute detail.
Thank you infinitely once more to our fans and thanks also to Spanish Football. During these nine exciting years I have played against great players. My respect and my recognition for all of them.
I have reflected a lot and I know that the time has come for a new cycle. I’m leaving but this shirt, this badge and the Santiago Bernabeu but they will continue to always feel part of me wherever I am.
Thanks to all and, of course, as I said that first time in our stadium nine years ago: Go Madrid!
Ronaldo joined Real from the Red Devils for 80m pounds in July 2009, and has since scored a club-record 450 goals and won the Ballon D’Or 4 times.
He has also helped them clinch the Champions League in four of the past five seasons, netting in the 2014 and 2017 finals.
“For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of the great symbols,” said a club statement.
“Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football.
“Real Madrid will always be your home.”
And the club wasn’t the only grateful party.
“Cristiano, your goals, your numbers and everything we’ve won together speak for themselves,” Sergio Ramos expressed on Twitter. “You have earned a special place in the history of RealMadrid. As Madridistas we’ll remember you for ever. It’s been a pleasure to play alongside you. Big hug and good luck!”
Juventus’ Sami Khedira, who played with Ronaldo at Real Madrid before leaving for Juventus, said: “Welcome to Turin, Cristiano. We were great at Real Madrid and I can’t wait to work with you again. Today is a great day for Juventus.”
Ronaldo isn’t just a footballer; he’s an influencer, too, though he doesn’t take duck-faced images and only show soccer balls instead of other balls.
The photogenic player has over 134 million followers in Instagram and over 122 millions Likes in Facebook. While it’s unknown how much he charges for a post, he does regularly promote things outside of soccer, like this:
Now, this is what a real influencer does, isn’t it?
The myth. The man. The legend. Ronaldo has constantly, against all odds, improved in every aspect, and you can’t help but wonder…
Just how much will this phenomenal man continue to grow?
But if there’s one thing for certain…
It seems that Juventus will be the ones reaping the benefits.
Or if it doesn’t work out well, he can still be an influencer #justsaying
