Geez, are things really that bad for Daiso these days?
With the appearance of newer and more interesting shops like Don Don Donki, I’m fairly certain that Daiso is facing some stiff competition at the moment.
Don’t get me wrong though. I love Daiso. In fact, I used to visit Daiso at least twice a week!
But yeah, I did say “used to”.
Ever since the Bukit Panjang branch close to my house got hit in the head by the “close-down” hammer, I didn’t really have a reason to go to Daiso anymore. Because where was the closest Daiso location to me? I didn’t know anymore.
After all, I was mainly there for the cheap Japanese food and convenience. It wouldn’t make sense for me to take a bus all the way to Jurong East just for Daiso! (Not to mention I’m a lazy bum)
Daiso at VivoCity Closes
As such, I believe this will be another sad day for Daiso supporters living in the vicinity of VivoCity. You guys must be here for the details. Have a look:
In case the image is not loading, here are the details:
“Dear valued customers,
We regret to inform you that we will be closing down one of our shops. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
VivoCity
Last day on 17th February 2018 until 10.00pm
We thank you for your continuous support!”
We’ve reached out to Daiso and they’ve confirmed the closure (honestly, part of me hoped that the person would have told me that it’s fake news, but it’s not).
As usual, netizens all have something to say regarding the issue.

Some saw the chance and took it, attacking the physical Daiso location.
While some others are lamenting the status of Singapore’s retail industry.
And then there are those who felt that VivoCity is meant for tourists.
New Daiso Location
However, I think we don’t have to worry about Daiso leaving us for good anytime soon. If you were to take a closer look at the image regarding the closedown, you would realize that Daiso is opening another outlet at 100 AM Mall!
…And I have no idea where that is.

(Oooh so it’s close to Tanjong Pagar MRT)
Well, I guess that’s great news for you guys who frequent the area! In fact, Tanjong Pagar isn’t that far from VivoCity. Maybe you guys can consider shopping at 100 AM Mall instead! And if you don’t intend to go there, it’s okay, because there are still many other Daiso locations around Singapore!
