Singaporeans have four types of events in their lives they cannot miss. Our O-level exams, BTO key collection, Chinese New Year reunion dinner…and last, but not least, the most serious.

The most important.

The un-miss-abledeals.

Missing these is worse than missing out on your first kid’s childbirth.

And the latest event that’s getting Singaporeans all geared up is 1 July, affectionately known as SAF day.

Also known as the day that almost makes our two years’ suffering worth it. Almost.

Loads of businesses jumped onto the Salute Our NSMen bandwagon and came out with awesome, amazing, jiggly-puff deals on that day that’ll put Black Friday sales to shame.

And among many of these MVP deals is one that we have to zoom in almost immediately. The M-M-M-MVP deal of the entire year.

Ala-Carte Dim Sun Buffet…For Cheap.

If you’re a dim sum lover, you’d know the pain all Singaporean dim sum lovers feel. It’s pricey to have good dim sum in Singapore.

True, you can go to any coffee shop and stuff your face with Kimly Dim Sum, but these are just…mediocore.

Enough for a fix, but nothing that really…wows. If you get what I mean.

The good ones, now those…those exist in Singapore.

But their prices are just like their quality. Super high. Which is why the Chinese always say, 一分钱,一分货  (you get what you paid for).

But for this SAF day period, you can eat good dim sun…for cheap.

Anybody heard of Yum Cha high tea dim sum buffet? It’s an all-you-can-eat ala-carte dim sum, from 3 to 6 pm on weekdays.

Typically, the buffet will cost you $23.80++ (adult) / $16.80++ (kids).

(Update: Yum Cha’s buffet price has changed and is now $26.80.)

But for SAF Day 2018 celebrations, they’re giving the buffet to you at 30% OFF.

From 2 Jul to 31 Aug, make your way down to Yum Cha Chinatown for their weekday high-tea buffet for only $16.66++ per pax (adult).

That’s right. $16.66, so even if you add in the GST and service charge, you’re only paying $19.49. Less than $20.

For all-you-can-eat dim sum? Filled with crispy mini-egg tarts, liu sha bao, siew mai and everything else under the sun? I’ll say that’s pretty worth it.

Now, everything on their menu is good. But if I have to suggest one dish that you cannot miss, or you might as well not go?

It’ll be this.

The Prawn Mango Fritters. Imagine the sweetness of mango mixed with savoury, fresh prawns, rolled up in crispy beancurd skin.

Yup, you have to try it to believe it.
