Due to App’s Network Issue, No Parking Summons Temporarily for 6 Hours

You don’t get this kind of news often, though I’m not sure if we’ll be seeing more of this in the future soon.

Imagine this: ERP is down and every car that passes by it won’t be charged.

Happy AF?

But no lah, that’s not what happened.

Instead, it’s something pretty similar but not to that extent.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you should know that coupons like these are going to be obsolete soon.

Since last year October, motorists can download an app, Parking.sg, which allows them to pay for their parking fees via the app instead of coupons in public car parks that still didn’t have gantries.

Of course, motorists can still use the traditional paper coupons, but it’s just a matter of time before it’s phased out.

After all, the app itself has about 100K to 500K downloads in Google Play store alone now.

It’s a good initiative, but here comes the problem: the network is down for people using Android today (27 February 2018).

The first update was made at 9:00 a.m. today, and they posted a similar update at 12:00 p.m.

That means it has been down for more than six hours.

It’s going to be a pain in the butt for people didn’t have any paper coupons since they’ve gone, erm. “coupon-less”.

Because of this, all summon aunties would give chance (i.e. enforcement actions will be suspended; i.e. no summons!) until the issue is resolved.

Just early this month, NETS was down for about an hour, and turned out that it was caused by human error.

So here’s the lesson for all in February 2018: carry some cash around, and also carry some parking coupons around.

There’s a reason why there’s a saying, “Cash is king.”

[Update: The app is now working since 2:43 p.m.]
