After a last-minute deal with Dentsu Inc, Mediacorp will be scheduling the Olympic Games “live” on Okto from August 6 to August 22, just before the live broadcast of the Rio Olympic games set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, at 7am Singapore time on Saturday.
Prior to this, the previous contract stated that they will only broadcast the opening and closing ceremony of the game, which drew quite a number of public criticism.
The games will be broadcasted LIVE every day
Mediacorp will be broadcasting the Rio Olympic Games live, every day from Aug 6 to Aug 22 on Okto and four Toggle channels.
The decision was made at a really last minute
The deal was re-negotiated between Dentsu and Mediacorp on Thursday, and the deal was re-offered to Mediacorp with a deadline on Friday (5 August) on a price which was decided to be fair by all rights holders.
The asking price for the deal was around S$6 million
The asking price for the deal was rumored to be around S$6 million, but Mediacorp has not commented on the report. For the 2012 Olympics, Mediacorp paid around US$2.5 million for the live broadcasting rights.
