The Sundown Marathon is a popular event for all marathon enthusiasts in Singapore and this event is set for its 9th edition in Singapore. What sets this marathon event apart from other marathons is that it is a night marathon: meaning that it starts off in the evenings instead of in the morning for other events.

Here’s what you need to know about the Sundown Marathon taking place this weekend!

Road Closures
Due to the Sundown Marathon being held on roads along the CBD Area and the Civic District, there are some road closures being carried out to accommodate the event including Fort Road and Mountbatten Road.

Changes to Bus Services
SBS transit has also announced thatĀ its bus services will be affected by the road closures.

Car-free Sunday on 29 May 2016
If you are planning to drive into the CBD after the race, you might want to reconsider because 29 May 2016 will be car-free Sunday, the following roads will be closed until the stipulated time and the following bus services will be affected as well.

Race Route
The Sundown Marathon route this year spans across parts of Singapore such as the CBD, East Coast Park and Marina Bay area. You will get to enjoy the beautiful skyline of Singapore while running along the CBD area and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of East Coast park at night. There will also be stations set up along the route allowing you to hydrate yourself throughout the course of the marathon. Check out the detailed maps here.

Flag off timing
Participants in the run should take note of the flag off timings for the various categories, with the earliest flag off timing for the 5km runners at 8pm, to 12.30am for runners in the 42km category. Do note that these timings are subjected to changes from the Singapore Authorities.

Ambassador
For the 2016 edition of the Sundown Marathon, the organisers have been working together with our national marathon champion, Soh Rui Yong , who has clinched titles in the marathon category for Singapore in the 2015 SEA Games. So for fans of local athletics, this is a good chance to catch Soh Rui Yong in action during the 2016 Sundown Marathon.
