True love comes in many forms: personal sacrifices, substantial affection and even stuffing Pringles into your dieting partner’s mouth. There’s no true way to ascertain true love.

But there’s one thing that differentiates it from other more spastic, plastic versions of love.

It’s just… noble.

Take it from a guy who’s never been through a relationship but has a shit ton of love advice to give.

This one is true love.

This sweet-looking couple hails from Hubei, China, and their names are Xiao Xia and Xiao Geng.

Things looked bright for them: they were happily in love and were getting married by the end of the year.

But… tragedy struck.

Xiao Geng was involved in an accident half a month ago, and it caused him to sustain 90 percent of burns on his body.

After 12 days of treatment, Xiao Geng finally regained consciousness and is currently in the intensive care unit.

His condition might be stable, but the doctor was blunt: even if the victim recovered, he would be permanently disfigured, and would suffer from various disabilities. 

Aside from that, his medical bills would also mount up to about 1 million yuan (RM 635,355).

Don’t let him be a burden to you

The world is a cruel place, where life is all about making the right decisions. The right one would propel you forward in life, while the wrong one might be responsible for years and years of torturous suffering.

Well-meaning parties who’ve heard of the couple’s situation advised 22-year-old Xiao Xia to abandon Xiao Geng. “You still have a long way to go in your life, don’t let him be a burden to you.”

But the feisty girl chose to stay by his side.

“When he wakes up, I will ask him to marry me! Last time, he was the one who would take care of me, now it’s my turn to do so.”

You’re the apple of my eye

They have known each other since they were 15 years old, and Xiao Geng fell in love with Xiao Xia’s sweet-looking demeanour. He started chasing her, and it took 5 years before she finally accepted his love.

After that, they went to Guangdong to work for two years and had plans to get married this year-end when they’re both heading home.

According to Xiao Xia, they were very happy together, even though they didn’t earn much money.

And then everything fell apart.

12 days after the accident, Xiao Xia was so worried that her boyfriend would leave her, that she couldn’t sleep well.

“I would wait at the intensive care unit every night so that if he woke up, I could be there by his side immediately.”

To make things easier for the heart-broken lovebird, Xiao Geng’s father rented a room for her just opposite the hospital, so that she could be closer to Xiao Geng.

When the owner heard about the whole story, he was so moved that he charged them half price for the room.

He even allowed Xiao Xia to use the kitchen for free because she wished to cook meals for her lover.

This was a real eye-opener, as Xiao Xia never used to do the housework; Xiao Geng was the house husband of the little family.

This wasn’t because he’s a henpecked boyfriend, however, but rather because he doted on her too much.

Can you see me?

Every day at 3 pm, Xiao Xia would be outside the window of her boyfriend’s ward, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

To her, this was the happiest moment of the day.

“I love him so much because I know that there is no one else in this world who would treat me as good as he does. I will never abandon him.”

One thing’s for sure.

Xiao Geng, you didn’t chase the wrong girl. And I genuinely hope that you will recover soon.
