Footage of Bees Buzzing in Bukit Panjang is Scary AF

When you type “bees are” onto the Google search engine, you will have plenty of suggestions indicating the sudden decline of bees all around the world.

Why are bees dying?

While scientists are still baffled by this strange phenomenon, there are several possible causes for this.

It could be pesticides, habitat loss and the impending doom of climate change aka global warming.

According to an article by National Geographic, the bee’s population has plunged by 90% since the 90s.

For the first time ever, a bumblebee species—rusty patched bumblebee—has been declared endangered in the U.S.

But in Singapore, I guess the population of the bees is going strong.

According to Stomp, On 5 November, a couple from Block 607, Senja Road, noticed a swarm of bees buzzing around their home in the morning.

A black mass of bees!

I bet it was a sight to behold for scientists and environmentalists.

Raj told Stomp that they have seen a few bees before but never of this magnitude.

He believes that something scared the bees causing them to get into a frenzy.

The bees did not take long for them to leave and the Town Council came down to mediate the situation.

Let’s just hope the bees were not euthanised.

Many of you would freak out when you notice a swarm of bees but do you know that they play a huge part in the ecosystem.

Why are bees important?

Many people will think that bees are only responsible for producing honey.

Yes, they are hard workers, providing us a jar of honey for our gluttonous tastebuds.

But they give so much more to the world!

Yeah, you might be able to live without honey but what about fruits and vegetables?

About one-third of everything we consume is a direct result of their hard work—they are basically mother nature’s farmers.

Fruits need to be pollinated, and bees are their matchmakers. Without them, you won’t have pears, avocados (nooooo!), strawberries and grapes (which means no wine!!!).

Then, without these fruits, there won’t be a need for farmers, essentially killing off people’s livelihood.

As you can tell, it is one big domino effect and the real victims are us.

The next time you see a bee, thank it and let it do its job.
