What a hectic week!
We have Valentine’s Day yesterday, Total Defence Day today, and Chinese New Year tomorrow!
I still remember, back in my schooling days, we had to memorise what are the five pillars and also sing the Total Defence Day song.
Wait what?? There’s a song for Total Defence Day??
Here ya go, peeps:
The song always gave me the NDP feels, but I guess cos they’re almost talking about the same thing?
Anyways, to keep up with the times and all, the lyrics have been updated and there’s even a legit music video now:
Another thing about Total Defence Day is the siren.
As usual, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will be sounding the siren today through the island-wide network of Public Warning System (PWS) sirens.
The minute-long siren will commence at 6.20pm, the time when the British surrendered to the Japanese in 1942.
The SCDF said that the PWS sounding is meant to serve as a “remembrance of this historical moment”.
It also underscores the “importance of emergency preparedness” and for all Singaporeans to protect our country.
The siren is also the ‘Important Message’ signal. Upon hearing it, do tune in to any local radio station for a short message on the PWS.
For those who have the SGSecure app, the siren will also sound on your device if it is not on silent or vibration mode.
Do take note in case you’re at a meeting or inside a cinema during that time!
