Here’s What An E-Scooter In S’pore Is Not Supposed To Do ‘Cuz This Guy Just Doesn’t Get It

Tough men like to say, “It takes balls to defy the rules.”

Which makes sense… to a certain extent. It’s also why I make sure to have my football with me when I go against my lovely mum’s imposed curfew.

However, rules aren’t meant to be flouted in every single scenario. After all, they were created with the intention to protect something (in most cases, anyway).

For example, as much as it pains me to admit it, road rules are king. They are there to protect the bulk of us because the road’s a dangerous place. Not as dangerous as being trapped in a room with a hungry man who has eaten many a living being, but definitely close.

And yet, road users continue to flout given regulations every day, despite warnings and prior accidents.

Live example? This guy.

An e-scooter rider was spotted weaving in and out of traffic in a dangerous manner.

And he didn’t seem to give a ****.

What happened?

Stomper Anonymous sighted an e-scooter rider going in and out of traffic in a dangerous manner.

It’s unclear where and when the incident occurred.

In a video he sent to Stomp, an e-scooter rider looked nonchalant as he weaved to the right to avoid hitting a pedestrian who was crossing.

Thereafter, he swerved again to avoid a car that was turning into the lane.

Smooth as a whistle, I would say.

Which would have totally been cool, had the general rule of thumb not be that E-scooters are not permitted on roads in Singapore.

Users must also make sure that they are travelling below the speed limit of 15kmh on footpaths, and 25kmh on shared and cycling paths.

What can an E-Scooter do exactly?

Now, an E-Scooter can do a lot of stuff.

You can use it as a form of transport.

You can show it off to your 5-year-old niece, who wasn’t impressed by your old Pokemon cards.

Hell, you can even date it, marry it and create Cyborg.

But there’s one thing you definitely can’t do.

You can’t use it on the damn road.

Previous incidents

There’s a reason why E-Scooters, or other Personal Mobility Devices (PMD), aren’t allowed on the road.

Apart from being dangerous for the users, they also pose a threat to other road users.

And the accidents that happened in the past don’t exactly oppose that claim either.

So a word of advice here:

Don’t take your E-Scooter to the road.

Now, I know you dislike it; you’re thinking, “Who’s this crackpot writer tryna tell me what to do?”

In response, I answer:

This crackpot writer is trying to save a life.

No, not your life.

I’m trying to save the life of the innocent civilian out there.

Because while you might be prepared to die.

They certainly aren’t.
