Jacky Wu Forces Landy To Decide Whether He Or Jay Chou Sang ‘Roof’ Better

Everybody knows Jay Chou and Jacky Wu, right?

Okay, maybe not the younger kids, but those in the 90s. Jacky Wu might look like the resident funny man, but he’s produced a few songs of his own back in his golden years.

Which is why he loves to sing (badly) in his variety shows.

In fact, my boss wanted me to become a second Jacky Wu on Goody Feed videos. I tried singing and eventually, we had to engage another person to do so because he was reminded of Donald Duck when I sang.

Eventually our video turned out okay with a new singer, of course.

Here, take a look.

Okay, back to Mr Wu.

屋顶

When you go to the KTV, there are a few must-sing songs every 90s kids know. 死了都要爱 for those who want to show off their vocals.

带我走 for those girls who have their crushes seated in the same K-box room.

And 屋顶 for the ultimate love duet.

Of course, it’s not just a duet for couples. Guys who are interested in a particular girl will invite them to sing this song together with them.

Remember, there wasn’t any Tinder back then. This was as close to a swipe-right as you can get.

Jacky Wu Asked Landy Wen A Difficult Question On His Concert

Jay Chou is the Prince of Mandopop, well-loved across the world.

And his success started with his mentor, Jacky Wu.

It was Jacky who discovered Jay Chou and signed him to his record company, Alfa Music, and he was responsible for Jay’s debut album which sealed him as a mandopop star back in the days.

But the two had a falling out with plenty of drama, including Jacky not being invited to Jay Chou’s wedding and a thoughtless sentence that made Jay Chou into a “cheater” before he was married.

So it was pretty awkward when Jacky Wu decides to ask Landy Wen, who sang the original version of 屋顶 with him, who she sang better.

Jacky Wu or Jay Chou.

In front of 12,000 Jacky Wu fans.

Three guesses as to what’s Landy’s answer.

Here, you can watch the segment for yourself below:

After digging into it for a bit more, maybe the question was done in good fun. After all, just before Jacky Wu’s concert, Jay Chou did “extend an olive branch” to end the feud between him and his mentor.

On 19 Jul, he posted a picture of Jacky Wu with his bandmates, SDBW, on his Instagram account with the caption: “Good luck with your concert! Your reunion takes me back to the past. It’s been 20 years. Time flies.”

And Jacky Wu did sing 6 songs that were written by Jay Chou back in the days.

(P.S. If you didn’t watch the video, Landy said it was Jacky Wu; maybe, or maybe not, in jest)

Two Different Versions of 屋顶

Lest you’re not aware, there’s only one official version: The Jacky Wu version. It was in one of his albums, whereas Jay Chou’s version is just one that he sang in one of his concerts.

So was Landy Wen’s answer truthful, or just politically correct?

Well, you’ll have to decide that for yourself.

Here are the two different versions you can listen to before making up your mind.

But as for me, I prefer Jacky Wu’s version. After all, that’s the one that I always pick when trying to (unsuccessfully) serenade girls at K-Box.
