We all know how difficult it is to pass a driving test sometimes. Still, that does not give any of us a reason to ‘bribe’ the driving tester.

In fact, none of us would even dare to do so because we know that that is illegal in Singapore.

But, apparently not for this guy.

Guy bribes driving tester with S$200

A man was sentenced to three weeks’ jail yesterday (8 June 2017) for attempting to bribe his way through a driving test.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the 41-year-old Chinese National, Yang Qiang, tried to give $200 to the driving tester at Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) in a bid to pass the practical driving test.

This happened in 22 February 2017.

Thankfully for the driving tester, he did not accept the bribe and decided to report the matter to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

Qiang was sitting for a practical test for a Class 3 driving licence.

In a statement from CPIB, they commented

“CPIB takes a serious view of any corrupt practices and will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in such acts.”

“Anyone convicted of corruption can be fined up to S$100,000, sentenced to up to five years in jail or both.”

Many netizens, too, have taken it to the Facebook post to commend the driving tester for his honesty, and for bringing the matter to justice.

Yes, good job to the tester who reported him! Because we won’t want another idiot driver on the road.
