MapleStory Free Market is Gone & Netizens Are Crying

MapleStory isn’t part of my childhood.

It is my childhood.

Granted, I might have deserted it for other hi-res, more exciting 3D platformers, but till this day, nothing beats the feeling of grinding 24 hours a day just to out-level that one annoying friend in your class. Nothing.

Now, of all the things I remember so favourably about Maple, the one that holds close to my heart, even now, has got to be the Free Market.

Even though I can’t afford any of the ridiculously-priced items they are offering, it’s still fun to spam the spacebar button in the middle of all the high-rankers. It’s like, hey I’m surrounded by high rankers! I’m important! Omg is that Mr Yandao? Omg so yandao!

So yeah, you get the gist. The free market was my one holy ground in Maple.

But that all changed, when MapleSEA dropped a truth bomb on us:

Dear Maplers,
The time has come for us to bid farewell to the Free Market. The free market has been established as a trading hub since MapleSEA’s early years, and it is now time to pass the torch to the Auction House.

With that, we invite all Maplers to take a few final screenshots in the Free Market.

WHERE? Any Free Market Rooms
HOW? Strike a fancy pose, sit in your favourite chair, and screenshot away! Grab your friends and guildies and don’t miss this chance! Maplers are encouraged to post a relic of NOVA with them in this screenshot, be in a chair obtained from the NOVA shop or a new cash shop outfit released during NOVA.

As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one being all emo about it. Not by a long shot.

While at it, I even found my literal spirit Mapler.

Goodbye, Free Market. You were a large part of Maplestory, and a part of my childhood. Rest well, and I hope I’ll see you again. One day.
