Mid-SES Hotels To Open In Sentosa Next Year So S’poreans Can Staycation on Island Resorts

There’s a joke going around Singapore for the longest time ever:

Hey, bro, want to go overseas?

When?

Today.

Siao ah, tomorrow got work leh!

Can lah, go and come back lo.

Where?

Sentosa

But even though Sentosa’s a stone throw away from Singapore (I mean, you can walk there, you know?), not many Singaporeans visit the place for a staycation.

Because the prices there are simply too expensive. And when I say expensive, I meant holy-shit-that’s-ridicuous level kind of expensive. After all, have you tried buying a drink there?

But guess what? All that is about to change from Apr 2019.

Mid-SES Hotels To Open For Business in Sentosa

Currently, about 2,880 rooms of 3,200 rooms available in Sentosa are high-SES rooms. They target the rich and higher income people.

If not, why would Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un conduct their very first meeting there?

But that’s going to change. Far East Hospitality said that they’re now going to go into Sentosa with mid-tier hotels.

A total of three hotels will open at Sentosa from April next year, featuring 839 rooms in all.

These hotels, Far East Organisation explains, will target the mid-tier segment of the market like families, business travellers and young adults looking for a place for a staycation.

They’ll Be Located Near Imbiah Station

Okay, now on to the meaty details.

What are the hotels and what will they look like.

The Village Hotel

This will be the largest of the three upcoming hotels at Sentosa. This family-friendly hotel will have 606 rooms and themed pool zones like children’s play pool and a lazy river pool.

Looking for a romantic getaway? This 193-room hotel is focused on hosting individual travellers and adults. You can expect a cool rooftop pool and bar and a hall for weddings as well.

This 40-room hotel will be the “exclusive” version of the three hotels, housed in a conserved colonial building.

All three hotels will be located two minutes away from Imbiah monorail station across Universal Studios Singapore.

And these hotels have never come at a better time.

S’poreans Are Starting To Get Into Staycations

According to a survey done by Expedia, the demand for a staycation is increasing among Singaporeans.

The Brand Expedia Singapore Staycation Study (BESSS) has found that almost two-third of Singaporeans have gone for a staycation in the past one year.

Have three Singaporeans in the office? Then that means two of them have just taken leave this year for a staycation.

The study also added that demand for staycations has increased by 15 per cent from 2016 to 2017.

And the most surprising part: married couples with kids are the top group of Singaporeans who had gone on a staycation in the past 12 months.

Followed by those who are married without kids, then singles.

But, of course lah, just take note that the rooms might be cheaper for locals, but a bottle of coke will still cost you a hefty amount there. #JustSaying

So, a staycation at Sentosa, yay or nay?
