There are many sinister evils at work in this world: unexplained sightings when you’re drunk, your sibling stealing your cookies, putting out the laundry to dry and it starts raining…
The list is endless.
But even so, none of them come close to what these two Malaysian teachers did to their students.
Now that, that, is a true evil.
What happened?
On Saturday (11 August), two women, aged 21 and 40, were detained for investigations after they were caught on video allegedly abusing and hitting children at a centre in Cheng, Melaka.
The videos, which last two minutes 10 seconds and 36 seconds each, apparently showed the two teachers getting physical with several children at the centre. The 36-second vid, in particular, showed one of the teachers slapping a child until he fell from the chair.
The other video was no less horrifying, as a teacher was reportedly seen carrying a girl and placing her on the body of a boy, who was lying down.
What’s this shit, Singapore Orientation Games: Childhood Edition?
Geezus.
Report
According to Utusan Online, police had received a report from the centre’s owner on the same day.
And Central Melaka district police chief Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the incident, which went onto circulate the social media circle, happened on 30 July.
“The centre has two branches. The incident occurred at the premises in Cheng, involving four kids,” he said.
He then added that the case was currently being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act.
Trauma
While it’s understood that the children weren’t actually injured in any way, you can’t help but wonder about the mental injuries they might suffer instead.
As a young child growing up, you’re taught to respect your elders. Obey your teachers. So what happens if that teacher you’re supposed to obey, turns on you?
What do you do?

As such, I hope that they get counselled about it as soon as possible because I’ve watched enough movies to know that the longer one drags the issue out, the more serious the issue becomes.
It’s not exclusive to Malaysia either
In 2017, it was discovered that nearly 40 per cent of child abuse cases investigated by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) in the last three years concerned victims younger than seven.
And while pre-schools here haven’t exactly been guilty (save select, alleged cases), they’ve been found to be unskilled in spotting the tell-tale signs of abuse, with experts calling for standardised training for teachers.
Stop child abuse
Which is, of course… easier said than done.
But I believe that if we just take small steps, they are bound to lead somewhere in the future.

It might not help the cause much, but as your fairy godmother always preaches…
You don’t move an entire mountain in one day.
And of course, invest in a good CCTV.
