A few weeks ago, my colleague wrote about the Nasi Lemak dress which will be donned by Miss Universe Malaysia Samantha Katie James at the upcoming Miss Universe 2017 Pageant on 26 Nov.

Now, I am here to tell you what our very own Miss Universe Singapore will be wearing during the national costume category at the said pageant.

Because why not?

Manuela Bruntraeger

24-year old Manuela Bruntraeger, who is Miss Universe Singapore 2017, will be wearing a rather interesting outfit to showcase the Singapore spirit.

The costume category is where beauty queens will wear an innovative costume that reflects their motherland.

So, Malaysia had Nasi Lemak.

Nope, it has nothing to do with food but it embodies our nation.

Gardens by the Bay

Manuela Bruntraeger will be wearing a two-piece suit—a green bralet and matching hipster panties—with our national flower, Vanda “Miss Joaquim” attached to the flesh-coloured tights, The New Paper reported.

Here comes the Gardens by the Bay element, she will have 25m Led lights attached to her which will spread out like peacock feathers.

The lights are reminiscent of the Supertrees in the Gardens by the Bay which can be seen when you are driving through MCE.

The wires are wrapped in maroon velvet and it has two 12-volt battery packs on both sides, allowing her to turn on the lights herself.

This one-of-a-kind costume isn’t cheap either as it costs over $1,500.

This will be the first time LED lights are being used for Singapore’s national costume; the said costume will also change colours when she catwalks down the runway.

Designer

47-year old designer Moe Kasim is the genius behind the dress.

This isn’t his first time as he has been creating costumes for about 8 years for many pageants such as the Peranakan-inspired costume which was worn by yesteryear’s Miss Universe Singapore, Cheryl Chou.

He told The New Paper, “Most of the time, when we want to present Singapore at Miss Universe, it’s usually a multi-racial costume, but nothing has been done that is architectural or structural.”

The costume took about 40 man hours and he had to ensure that the outfit isn’t too heavy for Manuela Bruntraeger.

It is definitely an “out of the box” approach and the orchid flower embellishments are the icing on the cake.

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see the live telecast of the pageant and the judges reaction when she walks down the runway.
