One Man Coffee is a specialty coffee concept that focuses on the art of the espresso. It is the newest addition to the Upper Thomson family and is a cafe by day and pizzeria by night. They serve all day breakfast up till 5pm every day with their 6-minute eggs and brioche french toast topping the breakfast hall-of-fame. Customers seeking for a light-bite can also choose from their wide selection of pastries from the Bakery Artisan Original (BAO) Bakery.

We had:

Flat White – $4.50

A friend who tried this said that the coffee was not as strong as he had expected. The bland used in One Man Coffee comes from Stranger’s Reunion and it tasted milky.

Espresso – $4.50

This cuppa, on the other hand, was richer than the Flat White.

Big Brekkie – $12
To add Bacon: + $2
To add Butter Mushrooms with Capers: + $2
(2 x 6-minute eggs, honey ham, toasted cherry tomatoes, baby spinach with pesto and a slice of grilled sourdough rye)

This is the first cafe I’ve seen that serves 6-minute hard boiled eggs instead of poached eggs which I absolutely loved! The sourdough, on the other hand, was a little tough and difficult to slice through. What I loved most about my breakfast platter was the bacon served. It was crispy and encompassed a tinge of sweetness which resembled that of the Chinese BBQ pork slices (Bak Kwa). The butter mushrooms were ordinary.

Brioche French Toast – $10
(Served with Homemade Berry Compote, Candied walnuts and fresh cream)

This is an absolute must-try and I loved every bite! For those of you who are thinking that this might be too sweet, well, you’re wrong! The brioche was crispy and had the melt-in-your-mouth texture to it. The ingredients magically brought out the oomph of the entire dish. My friends and I ended up savoring every bit of this.

Service:
The food was served reasonably quickly. Food had to be ordered by the main counter ourselves and drinks were self-serviced.

Atmosphere:
The cafe was cozy and quaint, though the limited seating might be a problem when it starts gaining crowd. It had a muted television playing Disney cartoons and I never felt more at ease at this cafe. I would probably re-visit this place again after my exams but this time, probably with my lappie or a good book to chill.
