Go news for Pokémon GO players who have been angered by Pokémon GO spoofers (cheaters): they might now be banned.

Pokémon GO developer, Niantic, has actually just set an ultimatum earlier this week: cheat, and you’re out of the game forever.

The news came quietly—it was spotted by a Redditor two days ago, when the official Pokémon GO website suddenly updated its FAQs page with a “Ban Appeal” page. In it, they explained the key reasons for the ban:

Your account was permanently terminated for violations of the Pokémon GO Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to: falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokémon GO clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third party software.

Our goal is to provide a fair, fun and legitimate game experience for everyone. We will continue to work with all of you to improve the quality of the gameplay, including ongoing optimization and fine tuning of our anti-cheat system. If you believe your account has been terminated in error incorrectly, you can appeal that termination through this form.  For privacy reasons, please do not post appeals on social media.

It’s still uncertain how the ban is implemented, whether it’s an IP ban or an account termination; one person in Reddit submitted a screenshot of an email sent by Niantic on the ban.

Previously, Niantic tackled the issue of cheating by updating their app to make it harder to cheat. Their targets were then mainly third-party apps or software that helped the players to cheat.

Now, the target is the players.

Ever since the launch of the game, players have been trying to find loopholes to cheat, the most popular one being GPS spoofing, in which the player moves his or her character on a computer and misleading the game to think that the player is physically in the area.

Some legit players claimed that several gyms in Singapore are controlled by spoofers, as it is almost impossible to reach such a high level in such a short time.
