I don’t know about you, but back in my days, when Ah Bengs or Ah Lians wanted to smoke (and obviously they’re not of legal age yet), they would do it discreetly, either in an HDB stairway or in a remote corner of a building.

Most of them would hide into a toilet cubicle to smoke instead—and getting caught meant serious consequences, from caning to even suspension. Everyone was obedient; at least, in open area.

You know, in the past, there were no Stomp, yet people still took the effort to hide their illegal acts.

So you can imagine how surprised I was when I saw this video.

Presumably taken in Telok Blangah Crescent, this is what the uploader of the video wrote in Mandarin: “During my secondary school days, Ah Bengs would have to smoke discreetly lest they’re caught by parents or teachers. Nowadays, kids are smoking openly! Bravo! Whose kids are they? They look decent yet dare to smoke in their uniform. Anyone knows them?”

Here’s the video, and a reminder of how old we’ve all become.
