There is a very thin line between discipline and abuse, especially in Singapore when kids tend to turn into strawberries if they’re not disciplined well enough.

However, how much is too much?

Well, this is a prime example.

S’porean Father Plead Guilty To Beating Up Son For Homework Mistakes

When does disciplining your child get too much? Well, one man might have found that out the hard way.

On 14 June, a 35-year-old man plead guilty to ill-treating his son.

His 9-year-old son made several mistakes in his homework, which made the father furious. So furious that he beat him with a hanger and kicked him.

The incident happened in Aug 2017, and the seven-minute ordeal was captured on CCTV footage.

The mother was out meeting some friends, so the son approached his father for help in doing his homework. The man told his son to think of the answers himself, but got angry when he heard several wrong answers.

He went into the room, grabbed a hanger, and started beating the boy. After his son said that he “really didn’t know the answer”, the father got even angrier and kicked his son twice.

After the mother, who is undergoing divorce proceedings with the father, found out about the incident, she sent the boy to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for multiple bruises, including a big-reddish-blue bruise on his buttocks and hook-shaped bruises on his back.

The man is currently out on bail and will return to court on 12 July.

For ill-treating his son, he may be fined up to S$4,000 or jailed up to four years, or both. He might be made to undergo counselling, psychotherapy or any other programme as well.

UK Made A-Levels Harder To Follow ‘Asian’ Standard, Students Broke Down

In a bid to drive up the standards of Britain students, the United Kingdom reformed the GCSE and A Levels examinations.

Instead of the typical coursework and assessment on a module-by-module-basis, students have to sit for an end of course examination.

The examinations, of course, are more challenging as well. Pretty similar to Singapore, right?

And the end result are students emerging from the exam halls with ashen faces and in tears.

According to Miss Jade Bowler, a British vlogger, people in the exam hall burst into tears after the paper because it was too tough.

And she was noted by Metro for sharing revision tips with her followers, which means she isn’t that dumb.

Parents and students across the country were unhappy with the new format, but the government isn’t changing their stance on the reform.

The reform was carried out after an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development study showed that in UK, adults aged 55-65 were better in literacy and numeracy than those aged 16-24.

UK is the only developed country to have such a finding.

ACS Students Disciplined For Viral Video Of Causing Chaos in Class

We’ve all caused trouble at least once in our lives. From lying about your exam results to causing trouble for the school.

Add in social media and you have a keg of explosives ready to blow sky high anytime. Like this well-known school.

A minute-long video of ACS (Barker) has been going viral on the internet. The contents? Students throwing tables and chairs within the classroom while other classmates tried to leave the room.

In other words, going apeshit crazy.

A boy had tried telling them to stop, but was simply shoved aside.

In response to queries, the principal said that the “appropriate punishment” has been meted out to the responsible parties, and that the students feel remorseful for the incident.

The video was believed to have been taken just before the start of the school holidays.

Could it be…that students are too stressed out? Or are they in “ORD mood”?

SIA Investigating Incident Where Passengers on SQ Flight Claims To Be Treated Like Prisoners

We all know Singapore Airlines, right? I mean, they’re just the number one airline in the entire world.

So when someone claimed that SIA “ill-treated” the passengers? That’s serious, man.

So serious it made the national newspapers.

Image: todayonline.com

Facebook user Chandni Doulatramani, who was on that flight from Singapore to Kolkata, claimed that the cabin crew did not have answers for the passengers, and told them to “shut up”.

Or they’ll call the cops on them.

The passengers were only told to board the plane 20 minutes after departure time, and the air con on the plane wasn’t working.

She said that there was no ventilation on the plane and claimed that two passengers were throwing up at the back.

And the cabin crew did not take any action to ease their discomfort.

The passengers were treated like prisoners, according to Chandni.

Furthermore, the cabin crew said that if the passengers unload themselves from the plane, no compensation will be given and they’ll be put on another flight two days later.

SIA apologised for the incident and is currently investigating the incident.

15-Year-Old Girl Missing After Leaving From CCK Home

Just a few days ago, we wrote about a 14-year-old girl who went missing after being seen at Hougang Mall.

And now, another girl is missing.

15-year-old Le’Shane Chong was last seen leaving her Choa Chu Kang home before she went missing.

Her mother, Pauline Tan, had checked with her friends, who said she was not with them.

Her mother had argued with her about her studying habits. She uses her smartphone too often and watches the television while doing her homework.

The last message her mother sent to Le’Shane was about cancelling her tuition.

“I told her if she did not want to continue with tuition, today’s class would be the last session. If she did not reply by 12.50 pm, silence is consent,” she said.

Le’Shane’s phone was switched off since then.

Her son said that he saw her leaving house with $7 and her EZ-Link card.

Mdm Tan has checked all the locations Le’Shane frequented around Choa Chu Kang, as well as asked her friends for her whereabouts to no avail.
