While you and I were happily getting ready to attend our families’ reunion dinner after a half-day workday, two parties were not as happy.

And they’re Melissa Wix and the organiser of Miss Bikinis Asia Singapore 2016, Lumiere International.

Here’s what happened.

Melissa Wix, Winner of Beauty Pageant Wasn’t Paid Prize Money In Full

Melissa Wix won the beauty pageant, Miss Bikinis Asia Singapore back in 2016.

She forked out her own money to take part in the competition and was allegedly promised a $3,000 cash prize after winning the competition.

She claimed that till date, she had only received $500 from the company and the modelling contract she held with them had expired back in April 2017.

And there’s more, she claims.

After her contract expired, the company allegedly harassed her via email and through her Facebook account.

In addition, they stripped her of her title.

Purportedly unable to take the harassment anymore, she lodged a police report in Nov 2017.

And in Jan 2018, she received a lawyer letter from Lumiere International asking for a public apology and a six-figure compensation.

In Feb 2018, she claimed that the company called her and repeated their request for her to take down her Facebook post.

She said she’ll report the case to the police after Chinese New Year.

So, what does Lumiere International have to say about this?

A spokesperson from the company stepped forward to clarify the issue.

The $3,000 prize that was promised to her was $1,000 cash and the other $2,000, in a model contract with the company.

The cash component was to be paid in two segments, one directly after winning the competition and one after Miss Bikinis Asia Singapore was concluded the next year.

The company later found nude photos of Miss Wix circulating online and decided to strip her of her title as they’re afraid it’ll harm the company’s reputation.

A spokesperson for the company said, “To the company, a pageant winner shouldn’t just be beautiful on the outside but more importantly, have an upright character. Ms Wix is not a good role model, and the company was forced to make a decision.”

She added that they have already lodged a police report for defamation and will definitely pursue legal action.
