Do you know about the Japan Rail Cafe opened by Japan Rail East at Tanjong Pagar? Back in June 2016, a big hoo-ha was raised when the company made known their plans to set up a cafe in Singapore.

And now, after a little more than 5 months of wait, the cafe is finally here!

J-fanatics, you can make your way here for a little slice of Japan while saving or waiting for your trip to the country itself!

In addition to Japan Rail(JR) East passes, the cafe also sells passes from other rail companies like JR Kyushu, JR West, JR Shikoku, JR Central and JR Hokkaido.

Authentic Japanese Fare Available here

Other than purchasing your rail passes in advanced for your trip, you can also sink your teeth into authentic Japanese fares like the Ultimate A.B.C burger which consists of 160g wagyu beef patty, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, and buns from Asanoya Bakery.

Or you can check out their Seafood Avacado Rice Bowl (Kaisen Avocado Don).

A special menu featuring dishes from different regions of Japan will also be launched monthly.

Activities that entice Japan fans to travel further than the mainstream areas

Normally, when it’s your first time travelling to Japan, you’ll ask around and seek itineraries or advice from friends who have been to the country.

Now there’s one more alternative for you: going straight to the source. JR East will have their employees stationed within the cafe who are more than happy to recommend destinations for your trip to Japan.

There are also workshops available to allow Singaporeans to interact with Japanese culture and direct them to less-mainstream yet equally beautiful places in Japan other than Kyoto or Tokyo.

Products from different regions of Japan, rotated on a monthly basis, are available for sale at this cafe.

Service Standard Gold

And this, I got to add too. If the staff at the cafe are mostly Japanese, it’s likely that the service you’ll receive there will probably be gold-standard too.

After all, the Japanese are unfailingly polite and pleasant, even if you’re an a**.
