Eastie: BEDOK FOOD IS THE BEST AND I WILL FIGHT YOU ON THIS.

Well, yes, we agree and that’s why we made a list.

Eastie: Oh right. Good point.

Bedok is no longer the crowded MRT station filled with people going to East Coast Park anymore: it has now evolved to a shopping haven, with shopping centres and an array of good food.

People in Bedok have often been proud of their Bedok food —so get ready your empty stomach and come on down to Bedok for a food feast!

Hougang Lee Chen Fish Soup

They’re so popular, they can afford to close three days a week and still draw a queue that is at least 25 minutes during peak hours. The clear soup is gentle to the stomach, but what draws the crowd is its fresh sliced fish—they just blend in so nicely with the soup that you’ll just down the entire bowl, soup included. One of the best Bedok foods.

Janggut Laksa

Janggut Laksa isn’t a new form of laksa, but simply Katong Laksa. In fact, the word “janggut” means beard, but it has nothing to do with the food, but have everything to do with the inventor of Katong Laksa. This stall has a history with the original Katong Laksa, but let’s leave that for another day: what you need to know is that anything that tastes like Katong Laksa is worth the queue.

Ok this one tops the Bedok food list for me.

What greets you at the stall is the long queue and a few newspaper cuttings, and that itself means it’s good stuff. Many people swear by the gravy on the kway: it’s rich and dark, yet not overpowering. It’s common to see people leaving empty bowls when they leave the tables, because it’s really that good.

Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup

Despite its name, the dish it’s popular for is its claypot pig organ, and it’s the sauce that makes people come back again and again. Other popular dishes are mostly related to pork, like the pork kidney noodles. But everything boils down to this simple trick: their sauces or soup have some kind of addictive herbal taste that just draws you back to the stall.

Hon Ni Kitchen Nasi Lemak

This is the kind of Chinese Nasi Lemak that allows you to choose your dishes, and its highlight is its ikan bilis. They’re soft in the inside and crispy on the outside, almost like a small fried ice-cream. And also, the rice isn’t overpowering with coconut yet still smells like one—perfect!

If there’s one Bedok food place you should try, it’s this one.

Ah Wah Rojak

If you think making rojak isn’t a skill, think again. The sauce is a make or break ingredient in every rojak, and this stall is in our list simply due to its sweet and rich sauce. Some people swear by the spicy version, but according to one of our writers who can’t take chilli, he says that the original version is just as great!

Bedok Chwee Kueh

You know, you can’t go wrong with a stall that has the big Chinese characters “chwee kueh”. Some people have said that it has the best chye poh in the whole of Singapore—well, judging from the queue that’s always there, it seems to carry some truth. This one is pretty high up my Bedok food list as well.

Chai Chee Pork Porridge

Some simply call it the “Bedok Hong Kong Porridge”, like the porridge is named after the stall. The best part about their porridge is its sweet taste that is always consistent, and its generous amount of pork that is cooked to perfection.

Well…need we say more? It doesn’t matter which stall you go to: you can’t have a list of best food in Bedok and leave out the popular Bedok Blk 85 bak chor mee. That’s injustice to all Bedok-ers and Bedok food in general.
