10 Easy CNY Goodies You Can Make At Home & Impress Your In-Laws

Okay lah, you can make these CNY goodies even if you don’t have in-laws. And if you have but don’t want to impress them, you can still make them for your personal consumption.

Here are 10 easy CNY goodies you can DIY at home and feed your ever-growing tummy.

1. Cornflakes Cookies (no bake)

Because I’m lazy like that, I love ‘no bake’ recipes. I’m sure you’re reading this because you want an easy way out. Hi-ten.

What you need:

a. 1/2 cup of sugar

b. 1/2 cup of corn syrup

c. 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

d. 3/4 cup of peanut butter

e. cornflakes (original or chocolate)


Dump a to d into a pan and melt the sugar over medium heat. Once done, pour your cornflakes over mixture and stir until they are fully coated. Lastly, divide them into small portions and place them on parchment paper to cool.

2. Honey Cornflakes Cookies

What you need:

a. 90g of salted butter

b. 90g of honey

c. cornflakes (original or chocolate)


Melt a and b over medium heat. Bring to a boil and turn off heat. Once done, pour your cornflakes over mixture and stir until they are fully coated. Lastly, place them into mini cupcake paper cases and bake for 5 to 7 minutes.

3. Fried Crabsticks

What you need:

a. crabsticks (peeled)

b. a pot of oil

Drain the oil and you’re done. If you have an air fryer, lagi best.

4. Pork / Chicken Floss Spring Roll

What you need:

a. Spring roll skin/wrappers

b. pork/chicken floss


Cut a into small pieces.

Place b on a small piece of spring roll skin.

Wrap, roll and fry.

Drain the oil and serve.

5. Seaweed Dried Cuttlefish Baked Rolls

What you need:

a. seaweed

b. dried cuttlefish

c. egg white


Cut a into small pieces. Fold b into a desirable size and wrap with a. Stick the ends by ending a little of egg white. Bake for 15 minutes and you’re done.

6. Fried Lotus Root

What you need:

a. lotus root

b. vinegar water

c. flour, potato starch, water & salt

d. a pot of oil


Soak a in b for 5 to 10 minutes. Drain and place your paper towel to remove water. Mix c well until batter runs smooth. Place lotus roots into batter and fry. Drain the oil and serve.

7. Chinese Almond Cookies

What you need:

a. 1 & 1/4 cups of flour

b. 3/4 cups of cane sugar

c. 2 tablespoons of milk powder

d. 3/4 tablespoon of baking powder

e. 3/4 tablespoon of salt

f. 1 tablespoon of almond extract

g. 1/2 an egg

h. 1/2 cup of unsalted butter


Place a to e in a bowl and mix. Then add f to h and knead into a dough. Cling-wrap it and chill. After that, divide, roll into balls and flatten it on a baking pan. Smear the top with some egg mix and add your preferred nuts. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

8. Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes / Tarts

What you need:

a. 1 stick of unsalted butter

b. 1/4 cup of powdered sugar

c. a pinch of salt

d. 1 teaspoon of baking powder

e. 1/4 cup of milk powder

f. 1 egg

g. 1 & 1/4 cups of flour

h. Pineapple filling (buy ready-made ones)


Mix a and b first. Then add in c to f and g in the final step. Knead into a dough. Divide accordingly, roll into balls and flatten it. Add in pineapple filling, roll into balls and place them on a baking pan. Bake each side for 10 minutes.

9. Persimmon Almond Thumbprint Cookies

What you need:

a. persimmons

b. cane sugar & lemon juice

c. Almond flour

d. a pinch of salt & baking soda

e. coconut oil, honey, 1 egg


To make the top filling, grind a in a blender. Pour puree into a pot, add in b and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Let it cool and put aside.

Mix c and d, then sift. Add in e and mix. Knead into a dough, divide accordingly, roll into balls and flatten on a baking pan. Add some persimmon puree on top and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.

10. ‘Love Letters’

What you need:

a. 4 eggs & sugar

b. coconut milk

c. rice & all-purpose flour


Whisk a in bowl. Add b into the bowl and mix well. Sift in c and stir till batter is smooth and runny. Strain the batter and set aside for at least one hour.

The mixture is ready, but you will need a ‘love letter’ maker for the final product.

If you don’t have one, just improvise and try making it with a waffle maker (that is if you have one).

Thank God you survived this ‘tutorial’. Personally, I have tried a couple from 1 to 6. 7 to 10 may look a little daunting because of the ingredients but once you get them ready and place them at the sides, the actual baking process is pretty simple.
