Most girls aspire to become an SIA girl, and recently there was even an uproar about an ex-SIA stewardess who shared about her life on the cabin – much to my pleasure because it was funny to witness the behind-the-scenes of being a cabin crew amidst the glitz and glamour that are always portrayed to us.

If you are still keen on joining the SIA team and are clueless on what to do, here are 10 essential requirements to be an SIA girl you must know!

Look presentable
During the first SIA auditions, it is always to look presentable as a form of respect to yourself as well as the interviewer. Most people will choose to be clad in formal business-like attires just like they’re going for a job interview.

It is also essential to wear make up, but remember to keep it minimal and classy.

Height
Females who are at least 1.58m; males who are at least 1.65m in height

Education Requirements
Degree/Diploma (those who are graduating before July 2016 may also apply if they have any of the two educational qualifications below.) OR *At least 2 GCE ‘A’-level  (H2 level) credits and 2 ‘AO’-level (H1 level) credits including General Paper in the GCE ‘A’-level examination OR *At least 5 GCE ‘O’-level credits including English and working experience (Source)

Good skin
It doesn’t have to be perfect, but the main requirement is not to show up with a face full of acne as one of the stages of the auditions would require you to go through a skin check where a torch will be used to shine on your face, hands and neck.

High level of English proficiency
During one of the interview segments, you will be asked to read out a passage to test your linguistic skills. In order to be a good air stewardess, you will also need to communicate well with the passengers on board.

Be polite
Saying words like “Please” and “Thank You” will give you an extra edge during the interviews. Also, doing simple gestures like opening the doors and listening to others during their interview rounds will also be an additional plus point!

You have to be very patient
Because there will always passengers shoving you with the worst demands without bothering to say a simple “Thank You”. You will also need to understand and be sensitive to their needs.

You will miss important days of your life
Not much of a requirement, but just something you should take note of. Friend’s birthdays, weddings, Chinese New Year, funerals – these are the important occasions you will have to be prepared to forfeit if you are on the air because your work schedules will be very irregular.
